Merged Peace President invades Venezuela,/U.S. Forces Capture Maduro

Colombia is already a US ally. Its military already gets US training and US equipment to fight narcoterrorists within its borders. The Colombian government isn't the problem.
Greenland and Denmark are also allies. Greenland lets the US base whatever military forces and early warning systems there the US requires. Greenland has no "narcoterrorists".

Greenland isn't a problem, yet still, somehow, it's a problem.

Trump says US is in charge of Venezuela.
If that means US troops on the ground...

I'm increasingly convinced it won't mean US troops on the ground. Security will be in the hands of Venezuelan troops.

I'm really unconvinced by those rumours that Machado would be in power now if only she had turned down "Trump's" Nobel peace prize. I think Trump doesn't greatly care who the figurehead is so long as they do as they're told, and if his new business partners, the Venezuelan army, think Rodriguez is the right choice for a smooth transition to their new arrangement, then she gets the job.

The idea that this all hinges on Trump's petulant whims sounds like an assumption that no other interests are involved here, when there's a lot at stake for US oil companies as well as for for Venezuela and its oil customers, like Cuba for example.

Fix up the oil first.
No planning at all

Reporter: Are you going to demand that Delcy Rodriguez allow opposition figures to return or free any political prisoners?

Trump: We haven't gotten to that. Right now, we want to do is fix up the oil

No interest in that crap at all. Just the oil. Stop the country descending into chaos, sure, because that would get in the way of getting the oil. But it's the oil, stupid.

The US military will protect the oil installations of course. They don't care about the rest of it

I disagree with you about American 'boots on the ground ' This isn't over by a long way, it's going to get messy.
