A little transparency. Sunlight is a great disinfectant.

Rep. Elijah Cummings releases a full IRS interview transcript

The Washington Post said:
The House Oversight Committee’s top Democrat on Tuesday released the full transcript of a congressional interview that he said “debunks conspiracy theories” about the IRS targeting controversy.

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), ranking member of the committee, produced a complete interview transcript in which an IRS manager in Cincinnati said he elevated the first tea party case that led the agency to begin singling out conservative groups for extra scrutiny.

Yup. Not my representative, but glad to have him in the Maryland delegation. Although I once had an argument with him. :)

If Issa were honest in his claims then he should not have released partial transcripts that painted a false story. I would be condemning Cummings if Issa had cooperated with Cummings and defended, as Cummings had asked, the justification for not releasing the redacted portions of the transcripts.

Issa's partisanship and lack of good faith in this process earns him condemnation. It's Issa's job to be objective and he clearly isn't doing that. He ought to be ashamed.

PoliticsUSA?

PoliticusUSA was founded in February of 2008 by Jason Easley. Jason had a vision of a liberal and independent news site which would offer a mix politics and opinion in an unfiltered environment, not beholden to any specific political or media agenda. PoliticusUSA is by design accessible to all levels of readers. Whether you are a casual follower of current events or a policy wonk, there is something here at PoliticusUSA for you.

“If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people-their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties-someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a Liberal.”~J.F.K. In other words, if you are to the left of Ayn Rand Tea Party Social Darwinism, if you think we have some responsibility for the poor, the elderly, the veterans, the disabled, and the vulnerable in society, welcome to PoliticusUSA.

And you gave me crap just the other day for citing Wikipedia.

  • I said I would accept Wikipedia if there were sources in the wiki article. To dismiss wiki wholesale would be a fallacy. You provided an unsourced quote from wiki. Poor form. Very bad form.
  • The article PROVIDES THE ******* transcript. Hello? How is providing the actual transcript the same as an unsourced wiki quote?
Think about it and get back to me.

Enh. It's not like the guys who did the Watergate break-in gave up Nixon on the first--or even the second--round of interviews.

It's not Washington, it's not Washington. Just a local office in Cincinnati. Oh, wait, the IRS office in Washington knew about it.

I wonder what will happen when the IRS managers in Washington are interviewed.

It's not the White House, it's not the White House. Just the IRS HQ in Washington. Oh, wait, the White House knew about it.

It's not Obama, it's not Obama. Just the White house. Oh wait...

At least we can hope that Obama has learned the lesson of Nixon, and hasn't been recording his strategy discussions. On the other hand, it's not like the half-term junior senator from Illinois has a lot of political experience to guide him...

Let's not forget that the person testifying is a Conservative Republican. The people lying on behalf of Nixon were loyal to Nixon. I don't claim Obama knew nothing. I don't even claim that Obama wasn't behind the increased surveillance. I claim that Issa was lying when he said Obama did know.
