I had wondered why the pieces coming off of the ice looked so dry and powdery when the ice was melting. It didn't occur to me that it was a matter of scale.
 
The scale of that event is just staggering. I can't imagine what it was like actually being there, being able to listen to it...

I have no idea what I just watched, but it seems like a bad thing.
 
That is spectacular. It's images like this that I always compare to movie special effects, to the detriment of those movies; my ability to suspend my disbelief fails me then, and I complain how unrealistic movies are.
