NECSS IV Roll Call

Not so sure about TAM but NECSS? You betcha. (Maybe I can even talk my cousin into attending this time- I'll be staying at her place....hopefully.

Hi all. I'm relatively new to the skeptic community and have been lurking for a while. I decided to make an account because I'll be attending this event. It will be my first conference of the sort, and I was wondering what to expect.

How many attendees usually show up for a conference like this? What type of exhibitors are on hand? Do the speakers make themselves available for questions? I have a few books that I'd love to get signed. Do the speakers make themselves available for this at all?

Thanks

Attendance: The past 3 NECSS's have averaged around 400-500, I think. Maybe a bit more last year at NECSS III.

Exhibitors: Usually only a couple. Skeptic Magazine, Surlyramics, local Skeptic organizations, JREF. These are examples, I'm not saying these specific ones will be there.

Speaker availability: Generally, yes, unless they have to catch a plane or something. Many even go out drinking at night. Skeptics conferences are very informal.

Figured I would bump this, a little, since it got off the index.

Pre-NECSS activities include: American Museum of Natural History tours (one of which I am now a "wrangler" for), The Story Collider (story telling by science folks), and Drinking Skeptically.

That last one (DS) is free of charge to attend, though you still have to pay for your food and drinks (or get someone else to pay for you). The others have discounted ticket prices attached to them. See the NECSS web site for details! http://necss.org/

If Neil deGrasse Tyson was going to be there, I would be able to convince CinC House (Commander in Cheif House) that we should go. The current guest list looks great, but it doesn't look like I will be able to make it. Will keep an eye on the list though.
