Osama bin Laden - Pervert

Not sure if this should go in the 'bin Laden is dead' thread, but I think its a bit different enough to warrant its own thread...

Turns out that of the items captured from bin Laden's compound was a collection of pornography.

The pornography recovered in bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, consists of modern, electronically recorded video and is fairly extensive, according to the officials, who discussed the discovery with Reuters on condition of anonymity.
(Ok, so the sources are anonymous, but hey... still funny if its true.)

So, any bets about what bin Laden would be interested in? Some hot Terrorist on goat action? Wet Bhurka contests?

Well first of all I take issue with your characerisation of someone as a 'pervert' merely because they partake in teh pr0n.

Secondly, if true, this is very amazing. Not having an internet connection, OBL would have had to send someone out to fetch it for him.

Not entirely surprising. When I went to Iraq, I found that every man over there had booze in his closet at home and his cell phone or computer was loaded with porn. The idea seemed to be "Devout Muslim in public, lecher at home".
 
CNN is reporting this, too. Unfortunately, like so much other information about the raid it's coming from unnammed government sources. This one doesn't pass my sniff test -- meaning I think it's a rumor that will end up being unsubstantiated.

Still, there's a chance that it's true and if so that's pretty surprising to me.
 
I don't know the chances of any guy that owns a device porn can be on, having porn is about 105%. The default position, from my point of view would be him having porn.

Yeah, I know... it was an attempt to position his interests relative to what would be acceptable in his own particular culture.

For example, engaging in homosexual sex is not "bad". Engaging in homosexual sex while proclaiming "gay sex=sin" is bad, particularly among followers.

Similarly, looking at pr0n does not make you a pervert in our society, but amongst a group of people who believe women should be "completely covered" in public, watching movies with nudity would be considered decadent/perverted.
 
I imagine that some of the ladies involved may have been showing fingers, ankles or even hair of the head. Imagine the scandalousness!

Quite possible. After all, it would make sense to try to try to tarnish the image of bin Laden with accusations of "hypocritical/decadent/etc." to prevent him from being a martyr amongst his followers.

Still, its not the only example. Apparently they had Coke and Pepsi delivered to the compound on a regular basis, not exactly what you'd expect from someone claiming the west is evil.
 
It was reported that he read The New York Times every morning with his Jaffa Cakes.
 
Apparently, OBL was watching a porno flick called 'The Pet Goat' when one of his staff informed him that the compound was under attack.

I read somewhere a few years ago that it was pretty standard practice for Al Qaeda to use steganography software to send messages to each other hidden in pornography, and to broadcast instructions to sleeper cells via known porn sites.
 
Chalk me up as a "Pervert" then. I used to just feel like a misunderstood 47 yo dude that had a couple bad marriages. Now I am convinced I will be shot in the left eye, (again) and buried at sea.

I think bin Laden was a hypocrite, like most megalomaniacal terrormongers.
 
It appears Osama bin Laden may not have been totally disconnected electronically.

Despite reports that he didn’t have Internet connection or mobile service, Reuters quotes high ranking Pentagon officials saying the Navy SEALs found pornography --- and a lot of it -- at Bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, consisting of “modern, electronically recorded video.”

No word on how it got there.

But some analysts are speculating it may have been transferred by thumb-sized flash drives that he used to send emails while in hiding. Or it could’ve been through the satellite television that he used to watch Al Jazeera.

Either way, it was there, according the officials, who declined to disclose the titles of the “extensive” collection.

My wife and a friend of hers run a business where they do estate sales for people, often people who have either passed on or have gone on to a nursing home, and what she tells me is they have never done an estate sale where the man didn't have some sort of porn stashed away somewhere and the woman didn't have some sort of vibrator. This is true even for people who are very religious and is often a difficult subject to broach with the family.

So...it doesn't surprise me at all that even Bin Laden had some.
