Recently HISTORY CHANNEL repeated number of 9/11 themed shows - one
of them (can't recall the name) mentioned flight UNITED 23. It was taxing
on runway at Newark airport when reports of aircraft flying into the WTC
The captain had aboard several "Middle Eastern looking" passengers whom
appeared suspect to him. The captain returned to the gate at which time
the suspect passengers bolted off the plane before the police could detain
them for questioning. They left on board luggage which contained Al QUEDA
documents. Have heard nothing further about this incident - that is if
ever happened.
Questions: Given that increasing the number of hijackers would create
logistical and control problems - smuggling more hijackers through customs
and hiding them until ready would increase chances of detection. The major
problem of the 9/11 plot was getting the "right" kind of people to fly the
planes. According to book LOOMING TOWERS by lawrence Wright the 9/11
plot almost floundered on this point. The average Al QUEDA fanatic in the
camps while motivated enough lacked the education and sophistication
to get sufficient flight training to fly the planes into the targets. It was
only the "Hamburg cell" led by Mohammed Atta who were engineering students
and lived for years in the west which allowed the plot to go forward.
Figuring a plot this elaobrate would have a backup - a spare plane ready
to hit any target which had escaped the earlier planes. Any more information
on this angle?
