Trump's Second Term

At last check, Trump's "break-up" with Epstein was supposedly officially because Epstein bought a property that Trump was intending to buy not long before then. It would be completely in character for Trump to try to screw Epstein over in response. "Because it's my nature" said the scorpion after it stung the frog midstream, killing them both.
I thought it was because Epstein poached one of his girls.

No more Mr 10%
Now he wants 50%

Reporter: The President threatened to block the new Gordie Howe Bridge, which would connect Detroit to Canada. This is a bridge that was fully paid for by Canada. It used American labor to construct it. It used American steel to construct that bridge. The president in 2017 was actually in favor of this bridge. Why has the president changed his mind as it relates to this bridge?

Leavitt: The fact that Canada will control what crosses the Gordie Howe Bridge and owns the land on both sides is unacceptable to the president. It's also unacceptable that more of this bridge isn't being built with more American made materials. The US should own half of the bridge.

Timewarp?

Trump: "Construction jobs are way up, right? Well, they're up because they're building all these factories all over the country. You have car plants under construction. I spoke to Mr. Toyota in Japan. I said, 'What's you name?' 'Toy-ota!' I said, 'If your name is Toyota you're a very rich guy.'"

May or may not have happened

Reporter: Trump told reporters that he had no idea about Epstein's crimes. During this conversation with the police chief, he did say, according to this recounting of it, that thank goodness you're stopping him. He also called Ghislaine Maxwell evil. Did that conversation happen? And can you explain the discrepancy?

Leavitt: Look, it was a phone call that may or may not have happened in 2006.

Yes Mr President, here's the Japanese trade delegation. Mr Toyota, Mr Suzuki and Mr Teryaki Chicken....

Electric plants for everyone

Trump: "I'm letting everybody that builds a plant build their own electric plant. So they're building a massive plant that's 4 miles long by 4 miles wide, and I'm letting them build electric plants. Some are nuclear, some are oil and gas, some are coal as a backup just in case."
Is he any relation to Father Dougal McGuire?

details emerge on the tulsi gabbard whistleblower complaint.

A whistleblower complaint alleging wrongdoing by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was based on the intercept of a conversation between two foreign citizens discussing a person close to President Donald Trump, according to the whistleblower’s lawyer.

The two foreign nationals were likely associated with foreign intelligence agencies, and the president’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, was among those who had access to the intercepted conversation, Andrew Bakaj, the attorney for the whistleblower, said in an email.

That is one of the stories, yes. Personally, I don't consider it to be all that credible, though. At least, not unless Trump had personal design on that girl.

Looks like I may have been a bit off, though. Trump apparently won that property bidding in the end, after Epstein tried to swipe it out from under his nose in response to Trump introducing the property to him and Trump saying that he intended to buy it.

Elsewhere, it looks like the Trump Administration has caused yet another international incident -

Ice Detention of Legal Irish Man Married to U.S. Citizen Creates Major International Incident

Going a bit further -

Mr. Culleton did nothing wrong but ICE still tried to deport him. Mr. Culleton has asserted that ICE forged a document that falsely stated that Mr. Culleton agreed to be deported. Mr. Culleton said that his life was with his wife and small business in Massachusetts and that he never agreed to be deported. He believes that his indefinite detention which has reached 5 months is punishment for exposing the ICE forgery.

Also of note,

Seamus Culleton said conditions at his detention centre in Texas were akin to “torture” and that the atmosphere was volatile. “I’m not in fear of the other inmates. I’m afraid of the staff. They’re capable of anything.”

I suppose my comment here is simple. **** ICE. I can respect an agency that tries to uphold the laws for the good of the country. ICE is not that. Criminals and criminal organizations hiding behind a facade of law enforcement deserve more severe punishment for their crimes, not less.

Thank you for this insight.

Trump's post is now seen to be entirely rational*, donors want him to put the fix in to potential foreign (Canadian) competitor which threatens their income stream. Acting to support a US business against foreign competition is exactly what Trump was elected to do. Making donations to a politician to get their attention to an issue is exactly the way the US system is designed to work. I imagine Trump will offer Canada the right to own and maintain the bridge in exchange for a US company having the right to collect the tolls.

*Well apart from the bit about Ice Hockey.

I would agree except for the fact that the 2 countries already have a signed agreement about the construction and operation of the bridge. Canada paid entirely for its construction, using roughly half US workers and materials. Ontario and Michigan jointly own it from the start. Canada will collect tolls until their 6.4B investment is paid after which time toll revenue will be split evenly. Trump even fast tracked the project in his first term and praised it several times. It is a model of cooperation between nations.

Now he is trying to renege on a contract for dubious reasons. If the family that owns the ambassador bridge didn't want to lose toll revenue, they could have built a second bridge long before now but they didn't they left that up to the governments.

Anyway, its all just more trump bluster. He will no more close the bridge than he will add 10% tariffs like he promised to in October, 100% tariffs like he promised to do in January or any of the other empty threats he's made.
