You could try a goofy answer, then. Or better yet, a proper one.
Maybe when they wake up, we'll finally get the answer.

With Musk it was a Nazi salute. Fist to chest, then extend straight arm with fingers pointed. That's a Nazi salute. Did he realise at the time he did it that what he was doing was a Nazi salute? Did he say to himself "I'm going to throw them a Nazi salute right now"? I don't purport to read minds, but I think it's possible that he didn't. He did a gesture that happened to be a Nazi salute, and when he was called on it he doubled down because he's a narcissist who can't abide criticism. Was it a Nazi salute with Galaxy Brain? Maybe, maybe not.

The heel click is usually accompanied by a slight bow, and as far as I know it dates back to the Weimar Republic or maybe earlier.
I think he knew - he wants to be funny and edgy so very badly (which he isn't), and he thought heiling would be both. It was too clear a gesture to be a coincidence, it seems to me - that very forceful stretching of a straight arm seemed too unambiguous.
No, not at all. I think he was making fun of Elon, but that was not a nazi salute. So, do you think Mamdani was doing a nazi salute?
I don't. It looks more like someone waving goodbye.

"It's in his heils (that's where it is, oh yeah)"
