Local News

I see Alan Shatter is ranting about Dublin City Council going “full-on Nazi” over a proposal to rename Herzog Park, possibly to Hind Rajab Park or Free Palestine Park.
Apparently it's "egregious" any (sigh) "antisemitic".

The front page picture on our paper this morning was of someone scraping his windshield. Winter is icumen in!
Damn cold here. There is ongoing discussion regarding who's leaving the cocoon to make breakfast.

I've been watching a few youtube videos from a woman who lives in Yakutsk.

Quote of the week:

"-50°C is a normal day, everyone goes to work, children go to school, people go to the shops."

I feel ashamed that I have complained about the cold.

Even with the incredible amount of clothing that she wears to go outside, she states:

"It is important to not be outside for more than fifteen minutes."

OK. Those people are made of sterner stuff than me.

You look at Shatter and it's deeply anti-semitic in his mind. Never mind that the Palestinians he so easily denigrates are also semitic (and probably closer to the tribes of Israel genetically than modern Israelis).

Thousands of bananas wash up on beach after shipping containers fall into Solent

"The public are reminded that all wreck material found in the UK has to be reported to HM Coastguard's Receiver of Wreck.

"Those who fail to declare items within 28 days are breaking the law and may have further action taken against them."

Yes, if they break the law the government is going send out the peelers!

What are they going to use for scale?

Meanwhile in Canada frustration with Winter takes an evil turn.

I had visions of someone wielding the machine like a battle axe but he just blew snow.

Officers located the accused on Sunday, took him into custody and charged him with assault.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb 9.

Without full details that's impossible to tell. I suppose that getting hit by a boat load of icy wet snow has the potential of causing injury. We may find out in February.
I think much depends on the distance. It's said this arose from an argument, and if they were very close, a directed blast from a snow blower could certainly hurt.

The article I saw said "no injuries were reported".
No injuries, but if it was close and obviously personally directed, even if it's not all that serious, it's not nothing either.

Meanwhile here the front page news is that Vermont is defying RFK's vaccine recommendations, though uncertain so far of the ultimate cost.
