I have seen several recommendations for historic videos and, YouTube channels.

@Andy_Ross has mentioned Drachinifel, for example.

One I've recently come across is, WWII US Bombers, which uses declassified US reports for its topic analyses. Not just US bombers but also fighters and naval anti aircraft systems

Example video on the anti submarine war from the air.

ETA, I'm getting a 153 error , but if you click the link it works

Military History Visualized - You do have his heavy Austrian accent but he gets some really heavy detailed stuff mostly from WW2.

The Chieftain - started with World of Tanks going over real tanks inside and out. Then moved to doing much the same with a lot of added stuff about doctrine and military development. He's one of the reasons the Sherman tank is better regarded today than the garbage the History channel foisted on us. Has become a meme on his own being a 6'5" guy fitting into 1930's tanks.

Brandon F - a reenactor who covers the Revolutionary War and Napoleonic Wars. Most noted for his contempt of the Mel Gibson movie "The Patriot" and was also was able to change Atun-Shei's mind.

Atun-Shei Films More a filmmaker than historian but he does a lot of niche stuff, but he is most famous for the "Checkmate Lincolnites" series that pretty much debunked every Confederate/Lost Causer myth there is.

Thanks, yes I was subscribed to those, except for Brandon F, who's newish to me, 👍.

As an aside, I barely notice the Austrian accent for Military History Visualized, but that could be because many of my immediate colleagues are fluent, but not native English speakers.

I could see Forgotten Weapons and C&Arsenal being in the list, though I have stopped watching them it was screwing with my algorithm and I was getting lots of crazy right wing nutjob adds targeted at me.

I'm getting them no matter what I watch along with lots of prompts to watch nutjob christian channels.

Though youtube does think I'm a woman from my viewing habits.

Atun-Shei is brilliant.
His series of films on the wars against the indigenous nations by the early New England colonies are very good.
Not forgetting the Witch Finder videos. They seem just comedy until you realise it's all from actual books, Puritan laws and documents from Massachusetts.

For aircraft I like Rex's Hanger and Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles, they are my recommendations for aircraft.
Greg does some pretty deep dives in to the technical and engineering side of engine design and aerodynamics.

Chieftain for tanks

Drach for ships

C&Rsenal is unmatched for small arms, along with Forgotten Weapons of course.
Also British Muzzle Loaders (he actually covers right up to WW2) is a Canadian guy that does fantastic videos on British small arms covering their manual of arms and training.

For swords, armour and anything related Matt Easton at Scholagladiatoria is the best.

His antique-swords.co.uk website has a lot of very good research papers on sword types and their history.

Also in this area Tod's Workshop is a good YouTube channel.
His series of experimental videos on armour resistance to arrows and crossbow bolts is brilliant.

One are that gets neglected: Daily life in Colonial America.

To cover a lot of that there is Townsends, a Revolutionary War sutler with a very good reputation and excellent research. A lot is centered on food as you may expect but he also shows the use of 18th century tools like a pole lathe and similar tools.

Another I came across.

Hypohystericalhistory, who mainly deals with Australian history.

Here is his first video on the New Guinea campaign in WWII

And one that I haven't watched because it really screams AI slop

Example from "British War Tales"

Not sure if it's supposed to be a Matilda, or a German Panzer. But even my limited knowledge knows it's neither. I suspect it isn't anything real.

And this isn't a Bren gun.

Drachinifel uses World of Warships to create images of planned refits and upgrades to ships that were never carried out.
He uses it to show designs that were planned but never built or his own speculative improvements with hindsight.

The tank looks like a Panzer IV with a Panther turret shoehorned onto it. The kind of thing you'd see in a low budget WW2 movie from the 70's. Don't have the foggiest what the gun's supposed to be.

New Arrows Vs Armour.

Including headshot in the vision slit of the helmet

Yes, I just watched the intro research video that goes with it.
Going to watch the full test tonight
