Given the quality of people Trump has awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to, I wonder if some future Democratic president (assuming Democracy survives) might consider retiring the award and coming up with something without the stench of Trump on it.

"We will no longer issue the Presidential medal of freedom. But we are giving out the presidential sword of awesomeness".

I gather that Pres. Trump doesn't really care about the medal or any such institutions. He awards it to his cronies just to own the libs.
 
Donald Trump is obsessed with winning the Nobel Peace Prize. That's evidence that awards matter to him. But the speculation goes that he only wants it because Barack Obama won it as President. Trump apparently can't stand the notion that the world liked Obama better than it likes him. So it can be said that awards matter to him, but for all the wrong reasons. Pres. Trump's "Your countries all suck!" speech at the U.N. will probably guarantee he'll never win the Nobel Peace Prize, no matter how he wrangles with Hamas and Netanyahu. Trump just can't help himself. But an attitude driven by jealousy and resentment explains why he gives prestigious awards to people he knows his political enemies dislike.

If he ever won, he'd bluster about it for a few days, then forget about it. I hope whoever wins it this year is someone Trump hates.

It will be. Trump will hate the laureate(s), since they got it and he didn't, even if he has never even heard their name(s) before the announcement tomorrow. He prolly won't have heard their name(s), by the way, he's not exactly well-read on ...well, anything.

Fortunately, that may not make any real difference in the life of our favorite Discount Nosferatu.

- He wasn't under indictment for federal charges over January 6 in the first place.
- There are indictments at the state level, but Trump's pardon does not affect those.
- The pardon does not impact his disbarment, nor does it affect various civil suits that he was involved in.
