Cont: Greta Thunberg - brave campaigner or deeply disturbed - part 3

Yeah, if it's a starving Israeli hostage, that's fine. Go, Greta!

Clearly taking sides in whom gets played as the bad guy isn't going to solve the bigger problem. War started by a terrorist attack.

We even as spectators are guilty but please don't actively distract from the bigger solution. Don't buy into all the propaganda from either side. Be it this war or the Russia/Ukraine war. Both exaggerate and downplay to win in the courts of public opinion. Lies by omissions are equally abused.

Stop the terrorism, stop the endless middle east war. Hamas certainly isn't taking the first step and clearly is abusing the courts of public opinion to try to gain an edge.
Greta is but a useful stooge to them. The flotillas are useful stooges.

But who cares if you are deluded into believing that will somehow do something useful.
End the war. That starts the healing process.

I mean, she made a mistake and removed it from her feed. As she should. What about it?
Think about it.

How does a mistake like this get made? It gets made by carelessly grabbing images from convenience sources, without vetting them or even bothering to know who they are. It gets made by not bothering to get their consent, to use their image for propaganda marketing purposes.

It's also a uniquely horrific mistake, in that it's an image of an Israeli hostage, being used to represent the plight of Gazans. That's not an "oops, deleted" mistake. That's a "what I did was both careless and callous, and I'm very sorry for the distress I caused to his friends and family" mistake.

Sky News Australia doesn't seem to share your opinion of the young lady.

I just stumbled onto some of thier commentary on her recent activities.

Sky News Australia is a right-wing Murdoch rag. It's Australia's equivalent of Fox News, and should be viewed the same.

Now that she's saved the climate and brought peace to the Middle East, will there be a third act for her performative activism? What will that be? Best guesses, please.

It was tremendously careless and callous that she ever posted it to begin with.
It was far worse than that. First of all, it was a lie that the Israelis were starving Gazans. Secondly, it was a fact that Hamas was starving Israeli hostages. Third, she used a photograph that proved the latter to perpetuate the lie that was the former. Fourth, she didn’t even have the decency to apologize.

So, again, it's good that she quickly realised her mistake and removed it, right?
She didn't quickly realize sod all. She had to be told. And no, I'm not going to applaud her for getting Basic Editing Thing 2 right, when the only reason she had to do it was because she got Basic Editing Thing 1 so carelessly, callously wrong.

Actually the quickness with which someone else realized her mistake says a lot about how careless she was.

But really, you're taking an extremely Christian view of this debacle. All Greta has to do is confess her sin, and all is forgiven. It's like it never happened, and she's welcome into heaven pure as the driven snow.

But no matter how heavenly your mind palace, no matter how fit an abode for the Saint Greta of your imagination, she's still a real person who did real harm to other real people, in the real world. Harm for which she cannot atone, for which she cannot be absolved, simply by desisting when told.

You want us to give her full credit for desisting when told. But you won't give her full debit for doing it in the first place. Probably because you know it won't balance the books in her favor. I've seen better behavior from the gods that presided over the Trojan War.

You, on the other hand, are incapable of acknowledging anything good she does, and are seemingly heavily invested in discrediting her at every turn. I wonder why.

I find it hilarious and enlightening to see old white men attacking Greta.

It shows how pathetic their own lives are when they feel a need to attack a brilliant, committed and brave young woman.

I'd bet you a pound of gold to the proverbial ounce of ◊◊◊◊ that not one of them has done anything noteworthy in their entire lives, while Greta leads an international movement of thinking people. Between Greta and Malala, we are privileged to see two of the most outstanding young women in all human history.

Feel pity for the knockers - I'd be signing up for voluntary euthansia if my life was so feeble I had to knock someone like Greta.

It's blindingly obvious to all but the truly bitter and deluded that history will rule in her favour and her name will join the pantheon, along with Jeanne d'Arc. Emmeline Pankhurst and Florence Nightingale.

The difference is that none of us are claiming to have done great things for humanity, and none of us have a millions strong fan club of thinking believing people who insist that it's true.
