Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

Elon Musk has declared his position on freedom of speech in a new X

Laudable. I can't fault this. The problem is the speed with which the laws of the countries are eliminating such freedom. Ireland is a trail blazer.

Galaxy Brain is lying. How do I know this, I hear you ask. Every single utterance of his is a lie. Nu-twitter is far more censorious than original flavour twitter was.

Microsoft has made it rather difficult to set up a new PC under Windows (for home versions) without an account. One way to do it is to disconnect the network during setup. But it's really pushy about creating an account.

Which isn't new. They've been doing that for years, especially for the home versions.

I guess my position would be, don't use a home version of Windows. Ever. For any reason. I can't imagine why Elon would use a home version of windows, but I don't really care either. The fact he couldn't figure it out is what makes me laugh.

Indeed, the business editions of Windows are geared toward using Active Directory, and are usually set up by I/T shops prior to sending the computer to the end user.

Debatable. I don't see too many people buying computers with home versions of Windows. Then again, it's pretty clear Elon has no ******* clue what he's doing, so I'm not surprised that he would be dumb enough to get a home version. After all, he was too stupid to figure out how to resolve something this simple. It wouldn't be out of character for him to do zero research before buying something to make sure he can use it properly.

This whole thing does make me respect my 66 year old father a bit more though. He was able to do it all by himself, never worked a day in tech in his life.

Also, one can wipe Windows and run Linux instead. :)

I use Linux, it's fine. I'm not a fanboi but I run 2 Linux servers at home, and we run a few here at work. To me Windows does a lot of things well that Linux can't and won't be able to in the near future. The same is true when the script is flipped.

Not to be captain obvious here but if Elon can't figure out how to setup a basic local user account, he probably isn't going to be sharp enough to install Linux, let alone use it.

Meanwhile, from the Cato Institute, of all places -

Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens confirmed last week that the number of known successful evasions of Border Patrol (“gotaways”) have fallen to just 800 per day in fiscal year 2024—down 70 percent from 2,671 the week before the Title 42 expulsion authority ended on May 11. A decline in gotaways this large and fast is unprecedented in Border Patrol’s history, and even as the administration faces unrelenting criticism, this stands as a major immigration win.

That's quite the drop after finally being able to stop that Republican border sabotage policy. Now, if only Republicans would stop inflicting the rest of their border sabotage policies on us and let the US prosper all the more.

Is this what you mean by good Samson?

Who is Collin Rugg? I tried to search for who he was and Google informs me that people who searched him also searched for catturd, Benny Johnson, Charlie Kirk and Jack Posobiec. Each and every one of them is exactly what I would expect to find in a litter tray.

Gosh, I'd HATE to grow up in a place where I get my food, clothes and education for free! Where someone else pays when I have to go to the doctor! A nightmare where I get free presents at Birthday and Christmas, and even Vacations, when I don't even work!
In some places, this Communist Dystopia is called a Family.

I have to take one week of mandatory paid leave next week and I am dreading it. Five whole days of no work and doing what I want. Some day's I won't get up until near 10am.

The horror, the horror.

"That's too early in the morning to be early in the morning."
I'd attribute it but forgotten where I read it.

This is where I am confused by the difference in generations.

I used to get up at 3am to hunt or fish.

(To catch the tide, or to be in place at dawn to catch the crepuscular.)

Hearing people deny that the world exists before lunch always takes me aback somewhat.

It used to be routine for farmers to rise every day before first light (if they had dairy cows), and in my early twenties, I briefly drove a bread van. Two days a week, I had to have COMPLETED my deliveries to the central market by 4 am.

That was known as 'the sparrow run' because I was up before the sparrows.

Here in beautiful downtown South Australia, it's common to see many dog walkers out and about between 5.30 and 7.30 am, so we can get the walk in before the yellow killer death ball appears in the sky.

(Just checked, it was 29.4°C / 84°F this morning when Ivan and I were out, and we're expecting 40°C / 104°F maximum today. Welcome to Autumn in Adelaide.)

Highly disingenuous, seeing as you already waved off incontrovertible evidence having to do with Media Matters. That's just one of several instances of Musk's free speech hypocrisy that’s been posted to this thread.

You said 'subscribes'.

Definition of subscribe: -
2. express or feel agreement with (an idea or proposal)

You may think that some of Musk's actions concerning free speech amount to 'hypocrisy', but that doesn't mean he doesn't subscribe to it.

If you want to talk about hypocrisy then address that, don't conflate it with something else. Present your evidence and we can evaluate it.

Musk on Free Speech is exactly like Evangelicals on Freedom of Religion: you are free to do it MY WAY, and if you are not, you are oppressing me.

Much as I subscribe to eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise. I’ll let you know when either actually happen.

There's a distinction between hypocrisy and simply failing to understand the entailments of agreement.
