Trump Sues Bolton over Book Release

Nancy Pelosi is pissed at Bolton big time for not testifying when she said he knew at the time Trump should be removed. He's not exactly being lauded by Dems.

Nor should he be. I'd bet every word of what he said is true. Everything is in Trump's character and pretty much confirmed by so many other incidents and stories told by others

But when true patriotism and love of country called, Bolton ignored his duty.

These are my thoughts too. Bolton rightly calls Trump out for putting his personal interests above that of the countries' but didn't he do exactly that by writing this book and not testifying in front of congress when it really mattered?

There is an editorial cartoon that shows two books, a thick one with a title like "What He Did" and a very slim volume titled "And What I Did About It."

He did volunteer to testify to the Senate, knowing they wouldn't call him. One of the four prime architects of the endless wars we've had for nearly 20 years now. The others of course being Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz. Bush and Powell were just patsies for them.

No, it isn't. Bolton doesn't have the freedom of speech that you and I have. He voluntarily surrendered it in order to take the position in government that he did and gain access to the classified information that he worked with. He cannot freely write about that classified material. This is a long established legal principle. It isn't an outrage. Rather, Bolton was an idiot to think he could just ignore the review requirements that everyone else in his position has to abide by.

Perhaps, but Bolton doesn't have a legal leg to stand on here.

Every analysis I have seen so far is contrary to this. Maybe Ziggurat has alternative facts he can point us to.

I'm sure there's some sooper seekrit proof, like about Obama being a thin-skinned narcissist.
Seriously, Doc, there's no point debating with those whose minds will never be altered by facts.

ETA: If I recall correctly you are an actual lawyer. Is Zig?

I'm not that kind of lawyer. Ziggurat tends to actually bring receipts for most of his positions, so I was actually interested in where he was coming from. Maybe he's still on vacation.

I now see that the Trump administration is trying to get a emergency injunction to stop Bolton's book from being released to the public. This seems ridiculous given that they waited this long.

Trump sure is afraid of that book. Lessee....which does he fear most being made public? Bolton's book or his tax returns?

I can't believe their incompetence. This book wasn't a secret and Bolton was working with the government to make sure that any security issues had been addressed.

President Trump threatens a lot of suits, how often does he actually follow through?

Very, very, few.
Trump was notorious when a businessman for threteing or filing lawsuits not because the thought they would get anywhere, but as pressure to get his way.
We might have a difference n legal culture here, in the US Filing a Lswsuit if the first thing you do,it's often just a negotiation opening / In the UK, I understand, it's a last resort when negotiations have failed.

If he's fighting this hard to keep it from coming out, then it's something he fears.

That's not how Trump's mind works.

He thinks Bolton needs to be punished for disloyalty. No one must be seen to profit from backstabbing The Donald.
