Merged Tesla (i.e. Musk) being naughty?

Glad to see Musk will be forced to provide evidence of his bold claim. The money amount is probably negligible to someone of such wealth, but setting the record straight is a worthwhile endeavor. Time for him to show his cards or admit he's a liar.

Unless Musk has been holding back on some damning evidence for some reason, I expect it will be revealed to be a totally spurious accusation.

A loss on the libel suit would reveal Musk to be a thin-skinned bully who was butt-chapped that his mini-sub idea was publicly dismissed by the real experts.

Agreed, Suburban Turkey, except that it's a submarine in the same way that a wheelbarrow is an automobile.

It was an enclosed stretcher.

There's no good spin that Musk can make. Let's say that this evidence actually does exist and he is in possession of it. Why did he not take it to the authorities?

Musk is either a bullying liar or he is concealing information that puts children at risk.

He may be smart in many ways, but in this instance he is behaving like a despicable moron.

You think he would have legal advisers to tell him to make a claim about funding a project when you did not have it in place constitutes fraud in the US and probably several other countries. If he had said something like "I am seeking funding" he would be in the clear, legally. But when he said he had funding he crossed the line.
I doubt he will face criminal charges...probably let off with a warning and a fine...but it just confirms my previous statements that Musk needs to know when to keep his mouth shut and to activate brain before activating mouth.
BTW the stock in his company took a big nosedive on news of the probe.

if the amount was negliable, why would he have to get funding to buy back the stock in his company?

I was referring to the 75,000 defamation figure. Taking Tesla private would be quite expensive, even for rich folk.

ANd his claiming that he had funding for taking it private is what has gotten him into trouble with the Feds, From a CEO making that claim falsely constitutes fraud.
Needleass to say, the Musk Cult is totally outraged that anybody dare question Elon the Messiah. Seriouly, the Musk Cult is as bad when it comes to blind worship and "he can do no wrong" as the Trump cult is.

And this exchange highlights a problem with Musk that has become more apparent recently.

You both were talking about completely unrelated issues of self-inflicted legal jeopardy that where Musk " will be forced to provide evidence of his bold claim. "

Ken "Popehat" White on the Unsworth lawsuit. He writes a lot about meritless suits, but is not so down on this one.

ETA: Awesome first sentence:
If aliens grabbed some rando popped-collar douchebro off of a frathouse roof, Uplifted his brain, and handed him a billion dollars, they'd wind up with Elon Musk, a furiously rich, frighteningly smart visionary and ambulatory Ed Hardy shirt.

I have to wonder if Musk it not like Trump in that he probably has competent legal advisors who tell him not to do this crap but he does it anyway.

And I have a basic mistrust of anybody who has a personality cult built around them.

I have admired Musk, and own some TSLA. But as soon as I saw his post about going private, I suspected there would be repercussions.

No huge surprise, but I'm still somehow tending to say "wow!"

Accident waiting to happen.

The reporting over here says that he came up with the $420 figure by taking the last trading price, adding a 20% premium - which came to $419, and then rounding up to $420 because 'he thought his girlfriend would find it funny'

Yeah, the 420 connection that Worm mentioned is in the link I supplied. I don't know if we've heard if the Air Force has decided to overlook the Rogan incident yet. So he's got this fraud lawsuit that could remove him from Tesla, and possible Air Force action that could impact SpaceX.

ETA: Yeah, the pot thing doesn't appear to have gone away yet, may even be widening: From earlier this week: https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...estigate-video-of-elon-musk-smoking-marijuana
