Seattle Mayor Ed Murray has resigned effective at 5pm today after a younger cousin became the 5th person to accuse him of molesting/sexually abusing them. 5 men have come forward now, prompting the Democtratic mayor to resign despite earlier stating that this was a political takedown and that he would finish his elected term. Yikes. This one has some rather lurid details, as well. Not good. The accusations make him sound like a rather nasty predator...

'Bout time. He should have resigned with the first accusation which was fairly believable.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray sexually abused foster son, child-welfare investigator found in 1984
An Oregon child-welfare investigator concluded that Ed Murray sexually abused his foster son in the early 1980s, leading state officials to assert that “under no circumstances should Mr. Murray be certified” as a foster parent in the future, according to public records obtained by The Seattle Times.

The investigation by Oregon Child Protective Services (CPS) of Jeff Simpson’s allegations determined them to be valid — meaning the agency believed Murray sexually abused Simpson, the records show.

“In the professional judgement of this caseworker who has interviewed numerous children of all ages and of all levels of emotional disturbance regarding sexual abuse, Jeff Simpson has been sexually abused by … Edward Murray,” CPS caseworker Judy Butler wrote in the May 1984 assessment.

Never was a fan of that guy. Three times in eight years Murray along with two other state legislators tried to limit fourth amendment protection from police searching homes without a warrant. It wasn't until the Seattle Times called them on their activities (siding with conservatives like the NRA) that he admitted the proposed legislation might be unconstitutional.

He won't face criminal charges unless something more recent turns up.

Because the statute of limitations for sexual-abuse charges has passed, Murray will not face criminal charges for the alleged abuse.

There was a lawsuit that was withdrawn. He might still face civil lawsuit(s).

While i support the the concept in general, I do not understand the reasons for a statute of limitations on some crimes, especially serious offenses against children who cannot be expected to speak up on a schedule.

LOL. Five allegations? Put an (R) next to his name, and we'd have heard all about him with the first.

The "reality has a liberal bias" media must have been working overtime to keep this story from breaking.

This signature is intended to irradiate people.

Was he a prominent politician back in 1984 when the first report was made ?

If not then that may be why any report didn't make waves.

IIRC it wasn't until there were several allegations against Dennis Hastert that any kind of action was taken ? If so, so much for your assertion w.r.t. Republicans

Do you think his fellow politicians will be writing letters of support if there is some litigation down the road?

I guess the logic is that "If I can get away with sexual abuse, I can get away with ANYTHING. I'll go into politics." :D

I suppose it varies by state, but what I hear commonly is 18 years old plus two years.

There very wel might be a civil lawsuit, especially with all of the corresponding stories. Right now there is a defamation lawsuit against the city for some of the public attacks he made against his victims while he was mayor.

Pretty despicable guy. The patterns of abuse stories, and the use of political power to attack his abuse victims sure reminds me of Trump.

You're right.

Pretty despicable guy. The patterns of abuse stories, and the use of political power to attack Clinton sure reminds me of Trump.

Wait... you're claiming that Clinton was sexually abused?

That's... backwards.
