• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Responsible gun owner shoots book. And boyfriend.

In another article it says that he previously tried it with another thick book and it did stop the bullet. Presumably this gave him confidence that it could be repeated. Also family members say he was an extreme daredevil who regularly did dangerous stunts.

What a shame Mythbusters is no longer made.

Jamie:"This week, we're testing the myth that trying to use a book as protection when someone shoots at you with a Desert Eagle will get you killed"

Adam: "Well, this should be interesting....."

(much later)

Adam: "Well, lets call it"

The really stupid thing about it...this was for you tube. A quick 5 second search on you tube will show multiple videos of people shooting handguns into textbooks, phonebooks, reams of paper, etc. They could have seen right away how bad of an idea this was.

Exactly. The motive for the stunt was to drive up traffic on the couples Youtube channel - as if that is actually an important thing.

Why wouldn't it be? Are they professional youtube content creators? Why isn't driving up business an important thing?

If they were trying to make money off the Youtube channel it is a very important thing.

It is reported that the various videos on their YouTube channel had not been getting more than about a thousand views with under 300 subscribers. That won't bring much cash. According to him this new stunt would kick the viewership into high gear. He told her that when the views reach 300,000 he would be throwing parties. Ironically, that did happen and their most recent and last video now has 343,000 views. It's all because of the incident though the shooting video isn't posted. The subscriber count is approaching 3,000.

Their YouTube channel is here...

Sadly not a candidate for the Darwin Award, is the shooter is already pregnant weith hers and the bullet recipient's second child.

That's not disqualifying. It doesn't matter if the candidate already has progeny (pre- or post-gestational), so long as they remove themselves from future reproduction.

It seems like it should matter a lot for Darwinian natural selection.

I am pretty sure that even with my limited skills and experience, I could create a convincing fake video of that stunt without placing anyone in danger. I wouldn't, though, because such a video might encourage someone to try it for real and ... that would be bad.

People make their stupid, insensitive jokes but it's a tragedy that one person is dead instead of two.

It is interesting the number of people who think that criticising someone who dies because they went on vacation to a dictatorship is wrong, but are happy to criticise someone who dies because of other miscalculations.

Its Not a tragedy, it's an obvious consequence to a stupid action.

I'm glad this moron only hurt himself, if stupid garbage like this was his hobby it was only a matter of time before he hurt himself or someone else. Thankfully to the rest of the world he took himself out before anyone else was hurt.

As someone who used to do a bit of stunt work **** this guy.

As a person who supports gun rights **** this guy.

And to a lesser extent **** his wife. If she was dim enough not to stop him let alone help, no sympathy.

I feel sorry for his kids, but at least they are safer now
