I was reading the weekly column written by our local naturopath, and she mentioned diagnosing a zinc deficiency by means of a "taste test". Googling gives me this: http://www.diagnose-me.com/treat/T291481.html

Is there anything to this, or is it garbage? (Apart from their submoronic use of "gm" as an abbreviation for gram- I know that's garbage.)

Since she's about as attractive as Sylvia Browne, she's not going to be within ten metres of me.

You can't possibly taste a zinc deficiency.

Now, there being too much, that could be doable.

I see nobody followed the link I provided. In a nutshell, if you can't taste a dilute solution of zinc in water, you have a defciency. If it tastes horrible, you've already got enough zinc in your system.

She is not tasting or licking any part of anyone's body to see if she can taste the zinc or not.

This seems utterly unlikely to me.

Easiest way to test would be take a blood zinc sample on 10 people, and then do the taste test. 10 should be enough to see if there's general agreement (within the usual variances) upon the flavor, or if there's something worth checking out here.

But, as I said, seems unlikely.
