He's back inside (18/9/2004)
Baby slaughterer Alan Yurko is back inside. He was arrested on September 9 and is being held in custody awaiting a hearing to have him sent back to Ohio to do some more of the time he owes there. Meanwhile the mythology mills have been running three shifts a day plus weekends to produce fairy tales about this "hero".

I was waiting to hear that!

ORLANDO, Fla. - A man who walked away from a life sentence last month when a judge overturned his murder conviction in the death of his infant son was arrested again, this time for a parole violation in Ohio.

Alan Yurko, 34, was awaiting extradition at the Orange County jail. He was charged with violating parole by moving to Florida in 1997 without permission from his Ohio parole officers.

Yurko, of Rocky River, Ohio, had been convicted of four counts of aggravated burglary in December 1989 when he was 19, Ohio corrections officials said. He served eight years in prison and was on parole when he moved to Florida, they said.

"I made a decision and I regret it," Yurko said Thursday from jail.

Yurko was convicted in 1999 of the murder of his son, Alan Ream-Yurko, and sentenced to life in prison. Prosecutors said the 2-month-old boy was shaken to death.

His conviction was overturned Aug. 27, citing problems with the autopsy. Yurko then pleaded no contest to manslaughter and was sentenced to time served.

Yurko's defense team had argued that Alan Ream-Yurko might have died in 1997 as a result of poor health, adverse reactions to vaccines and medical-treatment mistakes.

Yurko's wife has posting on a message board I frequent, and she's been very much the good soldier to this point. Of course, now she wants everyone to leave her and Alan alone - which is an interesting course of action for two people who used the anti-vaccine groups and their publicity machine to their advantage for years.

They've run out of excuses for his bad behaviour. They want people to shut up until they can blame vaccines for something again.

Thing is, the baby wasn't his. Violence towards step children is far more common than to biological children. The doctors point to shaken baby syndrome and Yurko's tendency towards violence. Yurko's team grabbed at any thread to point to another cause of death.

They didn't prove anything, but the anti-vaxxers had a heyday with the platform.

Now their hero is back in jail. He can't become their spokesperson. So hush up, and never mind, he's still working off time for his bad behaviour.

I haven't followed the Yurko fiasco but don't the anti-vaxers realise that he pleaded guilty to manslaughter? In other words, he says he killed the poor wee baby by shaking it!

Yurko twisted the logic. He said he was guilty of allowing the child to be vaccinated.

The anti-vaxxers don't blame him for pleading "no contest". They figure he's been through enough, and it got him out of jail. Funny thing is, he's back in jail.

Will dig for link:

Poor Yurko has a record now (even though he had one before). They also say the medical examiner is notorious for just giving the prosecution the story they wanted.

The guy was an idiot, mixing up autopsies. He put the Yurko baby down as black, etc. (maybe it was hard to tell if the baby was caucasion under all the bruising). He didn't intentionally just put down that the baby was just shaken for the heck of it. There were many other factors before the autopsy was ever done that pointed to the child being murdered, bruising, that only pointed to what should be looked at in the autopsy (which found broken ribs that were healing, etc.)

There was a lot of evidence, even without the autopsy. That was not dismissed. He was still found guilty.

Now he's back facing time for his other violent crimes. Wah.

Sounds like this Yurko fellow is a right prick.
Maybe he'll find God while in prison...

*gasp* How could you say that? His child was poisoned by vaccines, and he was falsely accused by those nasty pro-vaccine conspirators. Yurko is a hero, fighting the fight to prove his complete innocence. He's a kitten that was brought down by the hounds of hell! He would never hurt a flea! He's my hero, you rotter!

You should see all the Hatemail the ratbags site gets. The anti-vaccinators see Peter Bowdwich as a heathen that lies about angels.

Sorry, quite right. I should have said he's a complete prick.

Sounds like my kind of guy! I actually belong to a yahoo skeptics list that he is on and was pointed towards that site. Great stuff in there. I wish I had Peter's confidence!

:D I really admire Peter too. I really enjoy any and all responses he gives out. He always seems to scratch his head at all the insanity out there, and then takes it on in a no-nonsense way. His views aren't extreme, just bold and confident because he does have the background to know what he is talking about.

Hey, what list is he on? I subscribe to the healthfraud lists, but is there another he belongs to?

That's actually become a subject of debate - the paternity of his child. Francine says the baby is Alan's, and has a number of documents (including a letter from the Ohio DRC) saying the he was out of prison in the summer of 1996, not 1997 as originally believed. I have no reason to doubt the veracity of those documents, but I think all of the other evidence points squarely at his guilt nonetheless.

Outed! Yup, Kiwi Kid is Simon. :nz: :au:
Damn, we must do something about our national flags. Snap quiz: which is the Australian flag and which is the New Zealand flag?

Didn't the poms just beat you in the cricket? Mind you, you guys just beat us. Still... :alc:

Uh, the Australian flag is the one with the Southern Cross! ;)

Oh, wait - one has another star down below. Is that Canopus?

Don't know much about the Australian flag so I found this site that describes it. We Kiwis like to keep things simple. Guess what our two main islands are called? I'll give you a clue - one is to the North and the other to the South.
