I don't think the bible mentions fossils, or prehuman creatures, aside from angels and giant humans. ("There were giants in the earth in those days," Gen. 6:4)

But the idea that fossils were planted by the devil in order to fool Christians is old. As old as the first recorded discovery of a fossil, in fact.
