Okay you people still running XP will know what I'm talking about. After talking with friends I have come to the conclusion that Service Pack 3 was nothing but a conspriacy to screw up the fully functional and mostly stable XP and thus get more people to throw their hands in the air and buy the pile of putricity that is Vista.

It seems that all install SP3 does is turn your computer into a living nightmare giving it long boot up times, slow performance, and crashes, as well as munching up all the excess memory and disk space it can find.

Vista is obviously selling so poorly that MS has had to try fooling people with their new "Windows Mojave" and when that hasn't worked as well as hoped they sabotaged the most viable competing OS, XP.

I have to wonder how many people will be making the switch to Linux or buying a Mac.

I don't know? I intalled SP3 and my computer is stil _U()POJphjnPHJPOHJpop _( = uy80T 805' 08 ***^9886790()*8GB'BU'UIO8Y80 6]]' fine.
No problems at all.

Only difference SP3 made here was that some things started working again.

I bought a new computer back in june and am running XP with SP3, and it is running a lot smoother then my old one.
SP3 ,from what I understand, is mainly about allowing XP to work better with new State of the Art hardware, and I wonder if some of the features to do that might slow down older computers.

Look, I am not a huge fan of windows, but the bitter fact is if you game a lot you really have no other option then Windows, since few games are made for the Mac or Linux, and the Windows emulators for the above programs have serious problems.

geni, you are clearly a paid MicroSoft agent simply here to spread disinformation and thus can safely be ignored.

I have SP3, things run better then ever. Even some programs that had dual core problems now run fine whiteout any assisting software.

I think it is more of an issue with old hardware. I wouldn't know though, because I run Vista Home Premium on my PC. Although I would agree the Mojave ads are stupid, as well as the "I'm a PC" campaign. Although I don't know if it is really a conspiracy, but just to be sure I placed my spare Apple stickers on my PC just to show it whose boss; that and positioned my MacBook and Mac Mini on either side of it so it knows what will happen to it if it messes up.

Just a little computer vodoo that I believe in.

If you add 7 to the character code of the string that starts at offset 0xff3a443a09 in the SP3 installer and then swap the fourth and sixth letter, it's identical to the MD5 sum of the rot-13 encoded string "W.DIDIT."

No joke.

All the Computer geeks at work tell me that that problems XP SP2 was having with Dual cores was of the main reasons for SP3.
One change is that when you set a program to run in compatability mode for a pre XP windows version , it is automatically set to only use on of the computer cores, since almost all pre XP programs can only use the power of one core, and trying to use both can create problems.

My computer is pretty new and has a quad do dah and I have stuck with XP SP3. Only been running three weeks but so far seems sweet. I was advised by No 1 son (an IT geek) to avoid Vista as it is going to be as Windows ME to XP and a replacement to Vista is on the way that will do the clever stuff but not consume half your PC's resources just to boot up (I think that was the gist of what he said)

Technically virtually all programs made for XP do not take advantage of multiple cores either. The presence of multiple processors doesn't hurt them either though. What SP3 does do though, is add support for processors that came out after SP2 was released.

As far changing the affinity, I thought that was only done for programs running in a non-NT compatability mode (ie Windows 9x), since NT has always had multi-processor support.

Then you should try to run games like the original 1999 UT either on SP2 and SP3, or to play theft deadly shadows. You will change your mind, the difference is extremely visible.

I defer to your knowledge about the affinity issue, since I never used NT at home and all the game...uhl,programs... I use compatability for are 95/98 programs.

I have little interest in doing so, so why don't you just tell us what happens. Is it a timing problem resulting from shoddy programming by the UT authors that has now been fixed by a compatibility shim generously provided for free by Microsoft?

It reversed some of the of the operations sequences (because some operation are faster then others), making the future events happen before the present, jumping back and forward, when reloaded the sequences are re-switched making it run in slow motion. Plus there where graphical glitches flashing all the time on specific elements.
I had to use a compatibility program in order to solve that, now I don’t.

So in other words the answer to my question is "yes."

The resources Microsoft spends on fixing other people's bugs is amazing.

I've been unable to install SP3. As soon as it gets to the "finalizing installation" part I get the blue screen of death and then it reboots to restore my previous installation. So now I just ignore the "new updates are ready for installation" icon.

i have had MAJOR..MAJOR issues installing SP3. ive tried it 3 times...and it forced me to reintall an earlier version of my op. sys. ive given up on it, are more then satisfied with SP2..and i do believe it is an NWO conspiracy to make me buy a Mac.

I think the conspiracy is someone at Apples being responsible for their ad campaign. Those MS commercials are just so unbearable. How many times do I have to hear people saying they are a PC in a 30 second period? And the one's with Bill and Jerry? WTF?
