Sommers, a Pinedale Republican, told Cowboy State Daily there are two main reasons SF 117 remains in his drawer: It would impede local control and it may not be constitutional.

“Fundamentally, I believe in local control,” said Sommers. “I’ve always fought – regardless of what really the issue is – against taking authority away from local school boards, town councils, county commissions. And in my view that’s what this bill does.”

This is an interesting read.

It is interesting how much power that legislative leaders have compared to those who do not lead committees or the House/Senate.

It varies from state to state, but in WA I was at a hearing and watched as the committee chair killed a gun control bill just by not scheduling it for a hearing. Later on the House Speaker simply plucked the bill out of committee where it had died and brought it to the House floor for a vote where it passed.

Ever been to Pinedale? Old Jick Summers has to answer to some pretty sudden voters, & I don't mean that pansy paper-ballot kind of voting. They can take real good care of their own sisterboys if any of them turn up.

Jick always was a good hand at keeping his mouth shut & his bowels open. Kind of feller Pinedale likes to send down there to Cheyenne.
