Would like a reliable router....

I have been using a Linksys BEFSX41 for a few months now and I am looking to replace it with a new one. Anyone have any recommendations for stable router without any major bugs??? This one crashes if you try to do a tracert, and some applications cause the router to lock up all internet traffic except for the application. I have pinpointed these problems to the router since testing with the modem directly connected to the computers yielded no problems. Any suggestions?

I can vouch for the Netgear... gear. I've been using their 4 port + Wireless Super-G thing for about nine months and it runs like a dream. The web UI for setting up is also simple and easy to use.

An old PC running the gnu version of Smoothwall works great at my house, never hiccups at all and has plenty of bells and whistles.

I recommend this if you're on a budget

Oh. You meant something else. Sorry.

Decrepid old notebooks do a real good job at this. They eat less, too. Missing keys, mouse pad is wrecked, display is dead, and battery lasts five minutes? But it still "works"? Stick the router & other servers on it and let it collect dust in the corner. Just need two network connections and software (as mentioned above).

I got a D-Link DI-604 router that hasn't given me any grief for about two years.

Note on Linksys: We purchased a raft of them for work, and they were nothing but trouble. Limited throughput, dropped connections, etc. However a very recent BIOS download has fixed that problem, so...be wary to check that issue out - Always get the latest BIOS for Linksys.

Zep, I think U got it

I have never had that type of trouble as originaly reported. However, as Zep reported, there are some firmwear downlods that help should you have trouble.

These things are made for most folks to use without much trouble. Please be aware that they use Linux as the operating software and there are some home brewed upgrades that will blow your ming. Do a google search and see what you can find sepending on your model.
