Wow, just wow.

"The fact is that women are increasingly provocative, they become arrogant, they believe themselves to be self-sufficient and end up exacerbating the situation," he said.

This guy says that women bring violence on themselves by dressing provocatively and not taking care of their men and children. :jaw-dropp

It is better that words mostly fail me here, I think. Unbelievable. :dig: Keep diggin' fella, if you have a real big excavator you can dig deep enough to match your words...

I wonder if this guy has ever met Todd Akin?

I think the problem lies here...

"Is it possible that all of a sudden men have gone mad? We don't believe it," Corsi wrote.

I don't believe it either. But if we assume that men haven't suddenly become more prone to rape and violence against women than they ever were, there are two possible conclusions.

The first possible conclusion would be that there is something unique about modern society (such the clothing and attitude of modern women) that evokes this aberrant behavior in some men.

The second possible conclusion is that there have always been men who have acted this way, circumstances permitting, in almost every society throughout history.

I don't think the second possible conclusion has occurred to him yet. The sad thing is that he probably doesn't think of his statements in terms of blaming the victim, more as a basic safety warning. Don't swim in in shark infested waters, don't run with scissors, don't wear skimpy clothing in public, don't drink and drive, don't talk back to your husband.

I would suggest that priests bring violence upon themselves by dressing funny, not paying taxes, and believing mythical gods empower them -- they become arrogant, they believe themselves to be self-sufficient and end up exacerbating the situation -- but that would be morally wrong of me, and I know better.

We, in India are getting to hear a lot of patriarchal crap like this of date from politicians and other "elders" in society. This was triggered off after country wide protests by people demanding action to ensure safety for women. As usual there was a large group of idiots stating more or less that "women who get raped are asking for it."

It's a good thing it was a Catholic priest who said it. It would have been really bad if it had been said by someone people listen to and take seriously.

As much as I wish that was true, I think we both know it unfortunately doesn't work out quite that way. Keep in mind that a lot of people (deluded, it is true, but a lot...)listened to Mitt, the Koch roaches, the teagaggers and their preacher on the run up to the November elections...........

The second possible conclusion is that there have always been men who have acted this way, circumstances permitting, in almost every society throughout history and got away with it because nobody talked about it
You missed a rather important part. I agree with the rest.

"Men are beasts. It's unfortunate, but we can't change that. You have to live with it."

Which is actually a sensible position if you are a member of established church. To consider that men could change is a step toward considering that your organization's services might become unnecessary...

The mayor of San Terenzio said the message had left the town's residents "dumbfounded and indignant", while an elderly female resident told Sky Italia television that Corsi "should keep a low profile as he has lots of secrets he would not wish to come out".
Ho-hum. Who wants to bet his next leaflet will be about how those children (raised by those immoral, neglectful and scantily clad women, of course) bring the temptations out of those poor innocent priests and were just asking for it?

Yes - as we all know the little guys like nothing better than a priest up their butts. (or per oral).:jaw-dropp:jaw-dropp:mad::mad::mad:

Italy's a fantastic place to visit, but I sometimes wonder if it's a part of the civilised world.

Oh, not talking about it is actually only gaining prominence nowadays as a plan B. It seems to me like they actually talked about it lots in the past. With pride, even.

I mean, even the Bible actually has rules on how to properly rape in wartime. Oh, I forget, I forget... how did the apologetics go? Oh, right, it's not 'rape' it's a unilateral non-consensual marriage. Or just trying out for a marriage. (No, really, check the OT out. You don't have to actually marry her. If she's not good in bed, you can just kick her out.)

Or that if an non-betrothed woman (i.e., again, pre-teen) is raped, you have to sell her to the rapist.

Not to mention you have the Lord himself condoning or even commanding such things as taking the virgin (read: pre-teen) girls of Midian for the Hebrew warriors. Or attacking some neighbours to kidnap some young pussy to bribe the last Benjamite warriors into rejoining... and then doing it again, and, hey, it's not their fault. It's the fault of those neighbours for not having enough women to kidnap and rape the first time around. No, seriously, it's in the <bleep>ing bible.

Seems to me like they didn't have to pretend it didn't happen.

And violence against women? How about having to kill a married woman for being raped? Seems pretty violent to me. (The 'unless someone heard her scream for help' clause only applies to unmarried women earlier on that page. For married women it's missing.)

That said, ho-hum... a 50 year old virgin keeping his penis pristine for Jesus, and who's been a life-long member of a misogynistic club with a long history of hate-speech against women... turns out to not 'get' women either. Now that's a surprise ;)

In other news, KKK members are still biased against blacks, Neo-Nazis still have crazy myths about the Jews, the sky is blue, water is wet, bears crap in the woods, and surprisingly enough the pope is still a Catholic :p

On a more serious note, seriously, you have an organization whose dogma is still based on some highly misogynistic ancient books, and whose dogma still blames all women for being basically Eve. And creates an implicit failure for not being -- in fact, not even theoretically being possible to be -- a fictive Miss Perfect like Mary. It's an organization who OFFICIALLY doesn't allow women to progress past some jobs, to the extent that even NUNS have to be effectively led and confess their sinful fantasies to a male priest.

I.e., an organization that would be hit by equality laws like by a train anywhere in the western world, if they weren't allowed to hide behind 'it's religion'. Can you imagine any secular organization pulling an 'oh, we only allow women as receptionists, because it's our dogma and our founders' view that they're not good for anything else?'

And can you imagine the kind of person who not only chose to join it, but spent decades preaching that dogma? A guy who every other weekend HAS to obsess about the impossible standard set by Mary, and to which implicitly no other woman can aspire? And not just that Mary was that good, but that it took an act of God to make a woman good enough and free enough of that icky womanly sin for his son to come out of her pussy? Because God knows there wasn't even possible to find one without a miracle?

No, really, that's what the immaculate conception means. All women are sinners, and God had to intervene and create a good enough one. And it's not just official dogma, but an infallible ex-cathedra pronouncement of doctrine. I.e., it can't be changed even by a pope any more.

Does it really come as a surprise that when he opens his mouth, something like that comes out?

I mean, geeze, it's hard to even open than holy book at his to prepare a sermon without running into some opinion that women are second class and icky. What's the guy supposed to do? Take his own bible and church fathers as a bunch of nutcases who didn't know what they're talking about?

No, she doesn't have to be sold to the rapist. But if her father insists, the rapist has to buy her. A sort-of "you break it, you buy it" policy.

*But they still wear those neat little outfits with a cross over the heart and the head that are great for sighting on............damn considerate of them, I say!!

My father told me what they tried to teach him in seminary (in the 1940's): All women are whores, except for the virgin Mary and your mother.
The fact I'm here tells you that his career there didn't last'
