Wind energy

I read in a popular science magazine (norwegian: Illustret Vitenskap) that a study from Standford had found that wind power from Texas, Kansas and North Dakota could provide enough energy for the entire US.

It didn't say anything more about it. Does anyone know anything more about this study?

No, but it sounds laughably wrong.

Power generated in the middle of the U.S. would have to be sent more than 1,000 miles to feed the power hungry coastal cities, not very good for system efficiency. Further, wind power alone won't cut it -- the authors must not have been aware that sometimes it's really not all that windy in the central U.S.
