I've seen wildly varying predictions on the projected longevity of Twitter, and not a few about this website as well.

Which one will last longest as something recognizably similar to the original concept?

Good question. I've got the popcorn out wondering what'll happen to both.

ISF slowly fades away. Unless icerat decides to pull the plug, I'd say it's probably got 8-10 years left.

Twitter has a substantial value and I don't see any threat to it, so Twitter outlasting ISF would be my bet.

Twitter has never been profitable. Elon Musk shows no signs of trying to make it profitable, or even understanding (or caring) about what it would take to make Twitter profitable.

So it really depends on who has deeper pockets relative to the day-to-day operating costs, and who is more willing to keep spending money on a losing proposition.

Twitter made a profit in 2018 and 2019

Myspace is still around, some things you just can't kill, Twitter I suspect will be one of those.

I find it funny that, by the logic of evaluating Twitter, you can buy a house for 10x the asking price, and then it's worth 10x as much.

Twitter would only be worth $44B if there were buyers ready to pay that.

It would be my bet as well, but mostly because Twitter has powerful creditors which will squeeze whatever value they can out of it, probably after its CEO is replaced and its debt restructured.

ISF, OTOH, doesn't have anyone but hobbyist skeptics motivated to keep it afloat.

Wait until icerat starts offering his underground boring machine that self drives itself whilst also installing underground solar panels.

Then it will be worth trillions!!!

Inside info? Do you have shares? Is that why you have stuck around for 21 years?

Given that the forum is older than Twitter and is still here and viable, Twitter is just a relative flash in the pan. Mammals were way smaller than dinosaurs back then, but look who's the dominant species now!

Aside from Jeremy's post, I didn't comment on the profitability, I said it had value.

Currently around $44B, I think that's a touch more than ISF.

I don't disagree with you but Twitter was never really worth $44 billion except to its shareholders for a brief period. Even Elon Musk didn't really think it was worth $44 billion, at least, not once he'd sobered up. That's why he spent so much time trying to get out of the deal.

You guys should find out how the sharemarket works.

People are prepared to pay $x for a share. Consequently, the company is worth that times the number of shares. If people weren't prepared to pay that much, the value would fall.

I learned that stuff first at high school in the third form. (Year/Grade 9)

Any guess how much it costs, or should cost, to run a forum like this with few users and small bandwidth requirement? Ballpark?

I seem to recall it was about $120 annually last I saw from icerat. Could be misremembering though.
