A recent poll suggests not:
Dem poll: Allen West trailing by 9 in reelection bid

There's reason to take the House Majority PAC poll seriously. Not only is it taken by a gold-plated Democratic pollster, it's also weighted significantly in the GOP direction. The poll sample was composed of 44 percent Republicans and 37 percent Democrats -- a stronger GOP lean than the actual congressional district.

Murphy comes out ahead anyway in the survey thanks to an 18-point lead among independents. His 9-point advantage over West exceeds President Barack Obama's 7-point lead over Romney in the district.

"Allen West has become extremely polarizing, and he generates more NEGATIVE feelings (47%) than POSITIVE ones (40%)," the pollster writes in a memo. "In summary, the sharp turn away from Congressman West among Independents shows that his hyper-partisan record is being rejected, and that Patrick Murphy has strong prospects of putting this seat into the Democratic column."

Funny that Sarah Palin was actually saying that Romney should choose West for VP. That would have been awesome, but unfortunately Romney wasn't that dumb.

I kinda enjoy having gadflies like Allen West and Alan Grayson around to stir the pot, but I think West, like Grayson last cycle, is on the way out.

The article pretty much nails the problem - West is too polarizing and controversial to survive in his district. And in response to falling behind he is becoming increasingly negative, which makes him even more polarizing. I don't think he'll lose by 9, but I think he will lose.

Well, you know what they say. "One man's batcrap crazy loon is another man's patriot."

If West is the best these self-proclaimed "patriots" can come up with, then they should get used to a LOT of electoral defeats in the future.

Well, you know what they say. "One man's batcrap crazy loon is another man's patriot."

And that's precisely the problem.
Patriotism is just another label for the lunatic fringe in the GOP. I've no doubt the course will be corrected. I'm just worried about how much damage will be done in the interim. Rome survived Caligula and we can probably survive Allen West's and the rest of the GOP's decent into insanity for awhile, well, most of us.
