Today's Wikipedia "top read" in the list of most-read articles for the day is Brigitte Macron. (I wonder why - the article didn't help.)

I thought it might be fun to keep track of what's making news round the world.

There was some footage floating around in the media yesterday, of her shoving her husband, in the face just before he got off a plane.

He's laughed it off as a bit of fun, but appeared to have an injury on his face.

Edited to add:

It's still the top read today.

I don't see any injury on his face shown.

Brigitte Macron is trans, according to a conspiracy theory championed by Candace Owen amongst other tin foilers, floating around in the crazier parts of the internet, so this was just a confirmation that she really is a (168cm 57 kg) man who physically and mentally dominates Emmanuel Macron; this slap or whatever this was, is apparently the final proof, thus catnip to them.

The consporacists have some extremely convincing arguments, for instance they like to question why there are so few pictures of Brigitte as a child and teenager (never mind that she is a 72 year old woman, who lived most of her life before smart phones), and that in some more recent photos they (and no one else) can clearly see strangely suggestive folds in her skirts/dresses around her hips. The fact that she has children? They are from an early marriage to a woman (actually her brother's marrige - yes, you have guessed it; she is her brother) before she transitioned. Another "fact" they trot out to bolster the claim; important men (that they dislike) are all gay, and married to trans women - cf Barack and Michelle Obama - for reasons. Probably forced to do this by the illuminati/global elite, I expect.

I sometimes envy them their very agileminds; the reality they live in must be endlessly intriguing (if deeply scary).

I can't believe she's still the top read!

Actually, knowing conspiracy theorists' tenacity to their delusions, I CAN believe it.

“But at the top of the stairs, things turn icy again. He offers his arm; she ignores it, choosing to cling to the railing instead. As she passes, she appears to mutter, ‘Dégage, espèce de loser,’ translated in English, ‘Stay away, you loser.’”

Moments later, the lip reader claims Macron said, “Essayons, s’il te plaît” — which translated to, “Let’s try, please?”

She then responds, “Non.”

“His closing expression, and the phrase lipread as ‘Je vois,’ translated in english “I see” says it all,” the lip reader went on.
The duo, who have been married since 2007, first met in 1993 when Brigitte was a 39-year-old high school teacher and Emmanuel was her 15-year-old student and a classmate of her daughter.
I always thought it was a little odd that not only is she 24 years older than him, she was actually his high school teacher, and her daughter was his classmate. He was "Hot for Teacher" as that old Van Halen song goes, and Teacher was hot for him too.
So, why is she angry at him? Perhaps he is having an affair?

Questioned by the French press, which woke up to the images on Monday morning, the Élysée Palace originally claimed that the video was a deepfake, then admitted the scene was real but was simply a “moment of closeness” shared by the presidential couple. They were “decompressing one last time before the start of the visit, larking around”, a source close to the president briefed the French press. “But that was enough to feed the conspiracy theorists.”
Strange that they originally tried to claim that it was a deepfake. You don't need to believe any wacky conspiracy theories about her being transgender to see that something is going on in that marriage (marital conflicts are very common). And, hey, teacher marries former student: need I say more?

Is the "top read" the same as the featured article on the front page of Wikipedia? Because I see something different.
Now the top read is Larry Hoover, whoever that is. What do you see?

I've noticed it change some days depending on when different timezones are asleep/awake.

I don't know where to find this top read. Where do you find it?

Apparently Larry Hoover is a gang leader, or former gang leader. Trump just pardoned him. (Or more technically, commuted his sentence.)

As part of a spree of more than two dozen clemency actions this week, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday commuted the federal prison sentence of Larry Hoover, the founder of a notorious Chicago street gang.

Hoover was the leader of the Gangster Disciples and in the 1990s was given six life sentences on conspiracy, extortion, drug and other criminal charges.

In addition to his federal sentence, Hoover still faces a 200-year jail term in the state of Illinois for murder, and is unlikely to be released soon. A president is unable to commute state-level sentences.
Did someone attend a Donald Trump fundraiser on Hoover's behalf?

On the one hand, there's the Donald Trump who talks about re-opening Alcatraz to "get tough" on criminals, and on the other hand, there's the Donald Trump who is willing to pardon exactly the sort of criminal that would have been held in a place like Alcatraz in the olden days.

Now, I'm not saying it's necessarily wrong to pardon this guy. He has served around 30 years in prison and is in his 70s and in declining health. He says he is reformed and wants nothing to do with gangs anymore. So maybe he's been punished enough already and learned his lesson (a 200 year sentence seems a little excessive).

I'm just pointing out the contrast between his words at some times and actions at other times.

Now the top read is Luis Enrique, Spanish football manager. Must be some sportsing thing going on.
