Why won't this issue go away?

Moore, who was suspended for refusing to comply with a federal court order, has declined offers to display the monument in Mississippi and North Carolina.

Nossir we caint be bothered with MS and NC we gots us a Feral agenda.

Ah Southern claptrap at its finest...

Roy's Rock offered to Congress

So basically, putting in the courthouse wasn't unconstitutional enough.

"By its very action as the elected representatives of the American people, Congress would restore the balance of power between the branches of government and would send a message to federal courts that we, the people, have the final word on our inalienable right to acknowledge God," Moore said in a statement.

Until the federal courts make them take it out, too. I'm beginning to agree with the person (sorry, I forget who it was) who said that Moore is the best friend the secularists in this country have ever had. He's going to get all sorts of high-level federal precedent set over this one.

Christians of Moore's stripe believe that the country was founded by Christians upon Christian principles; they believe, therefore, that the country belongs exclusively to Christians of Moore's stripe. They believe that the country was stolen from them by elements such as the courts and the ACLU, and they want it back. They see themselves as a persecuted majority suffering the martyrdom of exile within their own land.

There will be blood shed over this. There always is.

p.s. I'll bet that the monument does end up somewhere in Washington.

that was Medved

That was Michael Medved.

I wrote about his comments in a previous thread but the search engine is not helping me.

Rik, just once in a while, you rock, and, oh, by the way,

The chalice from the palace is the vessel with the poison, the Flagon with the Dragon has the brew that is true! :p

Many years ago now, a DM (a game-master in Rolemaster) introduced both the "chalice from the palace" and the "flagon from the dragon" (from in this case) to his crew of players. He'd never seen the movie. All his players had. It took some time before order was restored . . .

There is a thread about this in the Religion and Philisophy section, where someone made a point that I think is extremely insightful:

In his case for putting the monument in the Alabama courthouse, the judge argued that it was a state's rights issue, and that the federal constitution did not usurp the state right to acknowledge god.

But now he is sending it to congreff, where a states rights argument no longer applies. So what is going to be his justification now?

Quite. The fundies are still flailing around, but they will eventually see that states' rights is the only way to go. The strategy of gaining the White House has given them Reagan, Bush I and Bush II and they still haven't got prayers in school. When Bush II loses (there, I've said it) they'll see the light of secession. This rock could still become iconic.

Indeed, it reminds me of the time I got shanghai'd in Shanghai on a junk full of junk.

I'm pondering writing a letter to my congressman about this monument business. Knowing me, it will be a couple of pages long...
