The news that Norwegian interests in Muslim nations were now targets of al-Qaida terrorism stunned Norwegian authorities. Security at embassies was immediately stepped up as baffled experts and politicians tried to fathom why Norway had made the list.

The good people of norway need to realize that these animals are the enemies of anyone who values the basic freedoms we sometimes take for granted.

Maybe osama was reduced to eating some Norwegian dried fish when holed up in a cave and this is his revenge.

My guess would be that it has to do with oil--Norway is not a member of OPEC, and therefore is fair game for the Hit List.

Tony, read the rest of the article. Norway ain't neutral.

As for the "animals" you refer to: go live in their conditions and you'd understand. What about the animals in Congo and Africa?

Anger does not follow rational thought.

It's not like the US would ever use a firing squad to kill anyone, for instance.

Finally someone realises that Norway is an important power on the geopolitical scene, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be true that they just mistook us for Denmark.

We already knew Al-Quaida were scum of the earth, and sent some F-16's down to help you bomb Afghanistan, we just thought the idea that invading Iraq would do anything to limit terrorism was laughable, and we haven't been proven wrong yet.

hmmmm, I still lean towards the dried fish theory.

Why not?

Joke aside, the theories I've seen mentioned is that they either confused Norway with Denmark (who supported the US action in Iraq with military forces), or that it is connected to the Mullar Krekar issue.

I doubt that oil is an issue (yes, Norway is a large oil-exporting country outside of OPEC, but Al-Qaida hasn't seemed to focus on oil as an issue earlier), nor Norway's earlier role in the Israeli - Palestinian peace process (the timing is off with several years for that.) It is of course possible that they already have a convenient target in mind, which just happens to be Norwegian, but it seems unlike Al-Qaida to give this kind of warning if that was the case.

Personally, I am inclined towards the "confused with Denmark" theory as the most convincing.

They target Norway because they can target Norway.

If anyone expected a group of desperate, fanatical, highly trained, and well armed people to just give up and go home after what happend in Afganistan and Iraq, then I expect that they will be sorely disappointed.

norway has so many hot blonde chicks.

i beg the terrorists to re-consider.

You may be on to something here. They are traveling to Norway to meet hot chicks while pretending to prepare a terrorist strike.
:D

Jokes aside, I do wonder if Osama’s gang could be infiltrated by a con man who just wants to take their money and run.

Not sure, but I think Norway is targeted because it's the location of the negotiation of the Oslo accords.

Could be the dried fish thing, though.
