Why is Ron Paul ignored by the media?

Watching the debate on CNN the other night, it was incredible to me how they seemed to wish Ron Paul weren't there. He was barely mentioned during the AC360 post-debate coverage; according to someone online, he was mentioned twice by name, tied with Rick Perry. In comparison, Newt Gingrich was mentioned 25 times, Mitt Romney 15, and Rick Santorum 14. Transcript here.

It's not like he got fair treatment in the actual debate, either. When the moderator tried to skip him on the abortion question (he's an OB/GYN), the audience had to demand he get enough time to answer.

By the way, this has been going on for months. Even Jon Stewart has been making fun of Ron Paul's ridiculous treatment.

This isn't about whether or not you like Ron Paul, or whether he's crazy, so I don't want to hear anything about that. This is about media coverage that's inconsistent with his candidacy. Why is Ron Paul ignored? Or do you even agree with that? Maybe you think Ron Paul is treated fairly - I'd love to see the JREF Super Skeptics argue that point. I know it's ridiculous to call this a conspiracy, but if it's not, then what the hell is it?

He is not ignored by the media.
He may be getting less attention that some think he should, because he has 0% chance to win the nomination (let alone become president).

Last month TIME published a 5 page article about Paul called 'The Prophet'. It gives an example of how this obsession with Ron Paul being ignored is fictional.

Right, because Newt Gingrich has a chance of winning.

:D

And boy, it only took 3 posts to start calling people minions. Wonderful!

Even on Swedish radio, he's mentioned almost as frequently as the other GOP runner-ups (Newt, etc)

The Diane Rehm show gets this constantly on the weekly "reporters roundup" segment. People will call in and complain about Paul's lack of coverage....
Often right after the reporters were discussing the man....

I think the media was, more or less, ignoring him at the beginning because they probably viewed him as a perennial also-ran. There were over 200 people who filed to run for president this year, we always ignore most of them.

Because he runs every time, and the second people are reminded about his actual ideas and details, he's toast. The only way to keep him relevant is to not look directly at him. He's perpetually disappointing.

Are these the same people who were crying that "Occupy" was being ignored by the media? Because neither Occupy nor Ron Paul have in reality been "ignored" by the media.

I wonder if people are claiming he's ignored by the media because the Paul campaign is spending less money on TV ads? In other words, they're not noticing an inequity in reporting as much as they're seeing an inequity in campaign ads?

Just a guess.

It could also be the paranoia typical of conspiracy theorists. . . .

That really bugged me, and I generally supported the Occupy protests. I have no idea why they started out from Day 1 claiming there was a media blackout.

Norwegian media writes about him from time to time as well.

And in the comments on the articles on him in Norwegian online newspapers, Norwegian Paul-fans (Yes, really!) whine about the Norwegian media never writing about him. From what I've seen, he's the second most mentioned candidate after Romney.

Does foreign media spend much time talking about US primary candidates?
