UN report today.

Early reports are that it was ordered by Khamenei because he was too close to the Saudis.

Hizbullah has threatened further violence if anyone attempts to take those involved in the assassination into custody.

The report also indicates that Hizbullah, Syria, and Iran carried out the assassination because they considered Rafik to be too close to Saudi Arabia.

Obama hails Hariri indictment, urges calm

Apparently we don't get to officially find out what it says though, because it's being kept secret.

Although the contents of the document remain confidential, speculation was rife that it names the Hezbollah militant group in connection with the massive car bombing that killed Hariri and 22 others on the Beirut seafront six years ago.

Why should it be kept secret? The people it names will find out anyway. Keeping it secret just gives them a fig leaf of deniability.

ETA: According to another story, the people named will be revealed in the future after the judge assesses the indictment.

How are the leftist pro-Hezbollah useful idiots like going to spin this one? Claim the UN is framing them up? Claim Hariri was asking for it and it was an "understandable response"?

They'll yawn and start yet another thread on the mossad passport forgeries.

Blame Israel perhaps?

Scanning his articles, Fisk has become something of joke.
Why does Independent keep him on?

He's like an old man at the bar, mumbling to himself:
'Pakistan...terrible mess...Egypt corrupt dictatorship...we like it that way..mumble...will the west ever allow true democracy...mumble...Israel mumble..lying again..mumble...Barman, another while liberal guilt on the rocks please!

I know. Even by his recent standards this article seems to be incoherent. I really can't work out what it is he is saying here except he seems to think it necessary to spread the guilt around.

Perhaps that is the point. The more clearly the guilt lies with the side he doesn't want it to lie with the more he has to create a cloudier picture.

I used to quite like Fisk. He's never been much of an analyst but he's actually done some genuinely brave on-the-ground reporting. Yet now, as you say, he's just descended into curmudgeonly mumbling. I think he must have picked up one of those chains that Shia pilgrims use during Ashura and ritually beats himself before he writes each article.

Given that Robert Fisk is a useful idiot for Hezbollah and has even gone Truther, that doesn't surprise me.

Gosh, what a forlorn little thread this is. Biggest news I've seen in a while, and only 13 posts.

Hmm. Iran's brave leader caught ordering the assassination of a head of state. Well, that answers the usual leftie challenge: "When is the last time Iran attacked another country?" The answer being, Iran has a habit of attacking other countries, through surrogates and assassins. And now we have a rather glaring example.

Gosh, it sure is quiet around here...guess all the lefties are busy bashing Amerikkka and it's little dog Israel in other threads.

Wow - feel better? There's tissues in the corner if you need them

I wonder what all the "UN are a bunch of Israel haters and anti semites who are in bed with all Israels enemies" poster will say?

Now they are OK?

ha ha ha

That's some very insightful commentary on the Hariri assasination funk!

I can't believe the BBC hasn't snatched you up as a middle east correspondent yet!
