Why does God hate sex?

This is a question that occurred to me while catching up on the "Love the Christian" thread. God hates sex. You can't have sex unless you are married - it's a sin. You can't have homosexual sex - it's a sin. You can't use birth control - it's a sin. You can't show bare skin in public - it's a sin. You can't masturbate - it's a sin.

In fact, according to God, you can only have sex with a married spouse, and only for the purposes of procreation. Ordained priests aren't supposed to have sex at all! What the hell does God have against sex?? And if it's bad, why the hell did he make it so damn good?

Note: keen readers will notice that I have mixed up sexual taboos from several different sects here and generalised the hell out of the whole argument. Deal with it.

Perhaps She wants people to enjoy it even more by making people think "Oooh, what I am doing is naughty!"

Of course, that would be unfalsifiable and silly.

well i think it's because god's on his/her own, you never hear about mrs god or mr god (don't want to be sexist) and if he's not getting any then he damn sure he's gonna try stop you from getting some.

"Why does God hate sex" sounds an awful lot like "Have you stopped beating your wife yet". ;)

The answer could be found studying the mindset of the people who made up this particular version of a god. Since I'm no expert, I'll leave the further argumentation to others.

If my catholic upbringing is right, it may be because he only got the chance to get some once... and i guess virgin Mary wasn´t that good :P...

But hey, you can tell he become more relaxed just right after that, compare the old testament god vs, new testament :D

Yea, that's why that warm and fuzzy place called "hell" and "eternal damnation" are introduced in the NT... ;)

Maybe it's like his kryptonite. Remember when he tried to kill moses, but was stopped in his tracks by a foreskin forcefield? (I wish I was making that up - Exodus 4:24-26!)

Ms. and Ms. God.

Or should that be Goddess? Or is that sexist?

"why god hates sex"

Because there is no god.

There are on the other hand priest which are after the power to control over believer. What's the easiest way to control somebody ? make them shameful, or accuse them of doing something bad (and not as one could assume to try to be friendly with them. That would leave them with their free will which is a no-no to control them). But what to accuse them of ? You have to accuse them of something which they keep doing and paint it ina wrong light. Drinking/eating is a bit too much, but sex is at the right level. So accuse them of having "bad" sex and accuse them of damaging the community. Control their sex life. Make sure you have to sanction their sex life (mariage) before it is seen as OK by the community at large. And so you have power over them.

I am not sure if I explain it clearly, but basically it is all a question of control of a small group over a larger one.

There's only one God, so there's no one for him to have sex with, but he's omnipresent so he sees it all the time. That's gotta get frustrating.

Is it not interesting that sexual repression seems to be a common thread in many different religions?

It would be possible for this god to create another god to diddle with, surely.

God hates sex that He's not having Himself.

That's why sex is so awesome, but comes with so many restrictions. He even added STD's later just to mess it up worse for us.

But in Heaven? It's all moneyshots, all the time. The Blessed realm is constantly dripping with ejacujuices.

We've grown up with reliable birth control. Our ancestors did not.

It is extremely important to society to regulate the production of children, and until recently, there was no technological means to do that. They invented the anti-sexual attitudes associated with so many religions as a way to prevent adolescents from becoming parents, especially with the "wrong" sort of people. If you tell teenagers that sex outside of marriage will send them to Hell, there is at least some chance that the Lord of the Manor's daughter won't get knocked up by the cute stable boy.
