Apparently he wants to gut the military and, I suppose, put that money into something useful. West Germany did that after the war and they didn't turn out so bad?

I just looked at what Ron Paul supports and none of it involves spending money. Any idea of what a Ron Paul budget would look like? Obviously if you gut intelligence, the military, and homeland security, there would be something left to spend? Is he for roads and bridges? Maybe I don't understand politics.

"The Ron Paul Report", published during the 80's and 90's, gives an excellent summation of the RP revolution. These volumes should clear up any confusion.

He wants to gut the income tax. Hmm. I don't suppose the powers that be would let him do that. Would he replace that with a land tax? Possibly a poll tax? It really doesn't look like he wants to spend money anywhere!

You ever drive down a back road somewhere and see a great big old house with busted windows, dead grass on the lawn, and junk cars out front? That is the result of a home version of a Ron Paul budget. Ain't nobody gonna tell those folks how to spend their money.

Ron Paul is a ultra liberal and he does not believe in government intervention in peoples lives. That is why he sees no point in spending money on a military for other purposes than national defense, as he does not believe it is the American government duty to tell people how to live.
I think that is nice to see a real liberal for once in the race for the president candidacy. I don't think he will win, but it would be interesting if he did, because he is in many ways the complete opposite of Obama.

Not necessarily if you are starting from a trillion dollar deficit and your goal is to balance the budget without raising taxes.

Plus I think he wants to cut taxes too, so no, I don't think he would spend the money on something else.

I think the word you're searching for is Libertarian, rather than "ultra Liberal".

Paul is decidedly Libertarian, and has some ideas that one might charitably describe as "outside the mainstream". Or....Loony.

He would dismantle much of the social safety net that was created after the great depression.

One could argue that many of those programs aren't run well. One can't argue that the most important ones haven't been successful and haven't improved the quality of life.

Ron Paul just wants to make the US one of the great Libertarian nations of the world, just like... um... what was one those great Libertarian nations again? Somalia?

OMG... it's as if Paulites simply don't know about Ron's plan to destroy SSN, DOE, FDA, FAA..etc. If Paul had his way, we'd all be at the mercy of business in every aspect of our lives.

1. He's three years older than John McCain is now. He's about as old as Ronald Reagan was when he left office.

2. His supporters are mostly nuts.

They do know that he will legalize weed, which probably says something about why they don't notice that just about everything else he says smells like bat guano.

The old dude is nuts.

Wants to remove separation of church and State, that's a big one to.
He's backed bills in the past that would give the individual States autonomy over what to teach, who they can elect, and the ability to pretty much over look the constitution.
