So after the world fails to end in 2012, what is the next date conspiracy theorists will latch on too? I want to get a head start in debunking.

Any ideas?

We achieve perfect vision in 2020.

In 2021 things start to get a bit blurry.

There's another "Y2K" type computer date overflow thingie that will happen on January 19, 2038.

It is because dates measured using a "Unix style" timestamp will overflow the size of a signed 32 bit integer on that day. (I.e. the date on that day will become larger than 2 to the 31st power seconds since January 1, 1970.).

Long ago, in college, I read a report that said there would not be enough of the ozone layer left in 2050 to protect us from the worst of the rays from the sun, and we all would get fried.

Oh, go figure... NOW they are saying the opposite:

Okay, scrap 2050 as a date to watch for doom. Zoinks.

Um. 3000, of course, there will be a 3K technical disaster...

Well this needs to be watched carefully, then. But first it needs a catchy name.... Y2.019052K? Has a nice melifluous sound to it.

I mean we're still recovering from the devastation caused by not being prepared for Y2K! What with rivers reversing their flows, the warp in the space-time continuuum, the Expos winning the World Series, passenger planes dropping from the skies, and the shut down of every power plant on earth....

Hey, we're lucky to still be alive, man! And that was just the start. In Y2.019052K it'll be, like ten times worse, dude!

Doomsday 232 ?

I'd say Carry Out Day, except people might get confused and buy Chinese food instead of properly panicking.

Whew I'll be dead by then.

Actually, the world will end on 3rd September 2011.

Half past three.
PM.
UT.

Anything else you need to know?

I will bet anybody any amount of money at any odds, that the world isn't going to end in 2012 (or any other year, for that matter).

If I lose, how are you going to collect?

Your link does not work for me.

I think the world will end one day after 31/12/9999. What is that date? 01/01/0000? But that is before yesterday, so I am confused.

I do not plan to be around at that time.

It's scandalous that nobody's doing anything about the Y10K problem.
