What you could do better than god

I realize that this is plenty of low hanging fruits, but the "God is the greatest being imaginable" or "optimal universe" arguments are just driving that point home. Put me in charge of the universe, and it wouldn't even take much trying to be a better god. I mean, I could even make a joke argument like "God, but it's a girl with huge anime tiddies", and it still would be better than the Xian god.

My submission for today is: menstruation.

Like, WHY? If I were to design a species from scratch, why would I need to just peel the whole womb once a month? Why not have it just reabsorb or otherwise reset in some better way?

Additionally, here's a tidbit: there are species, e.g., cats, which only ovulate and start the whole cycle, when actually getting <bleep>ed. It's not even a hypothetical "what I could imagine doing better", it's something that exists and "God" already did better before humans even existed. So what purpose does it serve to have a girl have her womb lining peeled off like a hundred times before there's ever a chance to have anything fertilized? Like, WHY?

Again, it's just one example out of a whole lot of low hanging fruit.

Please add your own.

NB, I'm only interested in actual thought exercises in what you could imagine doing better, not just "rah rah rah, Xianity sucks grotesquely" wanks.

If I was God I would make my existence clearly known. No need to work in mysterious ways or to keep hidden in order to avoid interference with people’s free will.

More seriously, it is hard for me to imagine a worse existence than being God. No mystery. Nothing to strive for. I would probably just will myself out of existence.

Have a way better and more compassionate standard of morality.

We've progressed (at least the really aware among us) beyond the savage, authoritarian morality of the God for whom we are just pottery to be smashed for being flawed, or to be used to contain ashes.

We are even more kind and considerate than Jesus Christ, who says love your enemies for the time being, but when I return, join me in my fiery vengeance.

I don't want to sit with Christ as a lord in his kingdom. My ethic is an ethic of Equality.

I don't want to make others objects of my religious agenda to change them. I believe in each person's dignity.

I don't want to surrender my rational mind to believing what I'm told, because "The wisdom of God is foolishness to men."

I don't need the middle man. It's not necessary for me to love you and myself, because God does. Love doesn't need to be commanded.

The God of the Bible, just as the gods of the Greeks and Romans is too small and week before the reality it's supposed he created. The Universe dilutes his power away and turns his supposed attributes into into empty ignorance.

Sacredness isn't his to horde, but each heart encounter transcends all his images and theology.

Anyone here can best God now, just by being real.

Having struggled with mine for a couple of days recently, I would design the human maxillary sinuses to drain easily.

As a theist myself, I've always liked:

"If I had the power of God, what changes would I make! But if I had the wisdom of God, would I make changes?"

Answer prayers.

Since God has answered 0 prayers, I'm sure I've already done things people wanted done.

Menstruation is an evolved trait. That alone suggests it has some benefit. Take it away and you could be making things worse. Would you do it, not knowing the possible consequences?

You see, God created the Universe out of chaos by seeding a pseudorandom number generator. He did the calculations a bazillion times and only one number produced the desired results. Unfortunately menstruation was a part of it. Sucks for women, but that's just the way it had to be. Umpteen other seeds didn't produce life at all, and many more only created hideous monsters at best. We should think ourselves lucky that God's dice rolling skills are so awesome.

The ancients got a lot wrong about God, but some things they got right. He did indeed create the Universe and everything in it, which in a way makes Him omnipotent. He is also omniscient, since He knows everything that will happen down to the finest detail. But once He started the process there was nothing He could do but sit back and watch it play out.

Some say that God is omnibenevolent, and this too is true in a sense. You see, He could have created a universe that maximized happiness at one particular point in time, but it would be much less optimal at other times. So He went for the happiest medium possible for us. If you think life on Earth is cruel, just think how much worse it could be. God has created a virtual paradise for us compared to practically anywhere else.

Another 'problem' is so-called Evil, for how can Good exist without it? In reality there is no evil, just things that are bad for you. But preventing all bad things from happening (even to good people) is impossible in this universe.

Are you disappointed that God hasn't sufficiently prioritized your happiness over the needs of the entire Universe? Does it upset you that He won't change things just for you, even if you grovel and beg and commit all kinds of atrocities in His name? Well you shouldn't, because God gave you the power to make things better.

You can't beak the laws of physics, nor the machinations of that random number generator (which actually is the Universe and everything in it). But you don't have to give in to it. You are a part of it, so don't be afraid to do what you think is right - it's what God planned for you. Just be careful to make sure that it is right, because He can't step in to fix it if you screw up. And don't bother praying for Him to do stuff, because even if He can hear you He can't change what He set in motion.

The Universe has existed for 13.8 billion years. Seems like a long time for that random number generator to play out, but it's not even close to done yet - and we are only a minuscule part of its evolution. So forget about God. Whether you imagine He exists or not makes no difference. Just be the best you can be, and enjoy life while you can.
