Was thinking earlier about this. While it would probably be impossible to get accurate numbers on this, it would be very interesting if we could compare the number of people killed in any kind of satanic ritual, (rituals of other non-satanic religions would be counted seperately) and compare that to the number of people killed in exorcisims. On the side you could try to include deaths due to relying on prayer instead of medical attention.

Just interesting to see how many deaths due to fundamentalist 'help' in comparison to 'satanic attrocities'. Deaths due to satanic cults I would expect to be nil or near nil.

From http://www.religioustolerance.org/sra_surv.htm
The numbers vary from 50,0000 to 0. Satanic ritual abuse is a crime for which there are no available accurate statistics.
Just a casual assumption of mine, I think more people have died in the name of comets than in the name of Satan. Of course, plenty more have been murdered because others thought they were a witch or friend of Satan.

In my 'Ugly Religion' topic, I have a 'satanist' who killed 3, and one who blamed demons, but others who claimed "god" told them to...

Those came through a few google news searches for god, satan. Devils and demons turned up lots of sports teams. There's always a few blaming demons or Jesus or whatever supernatural whatsits for what they've done.

So, statistics for "devil made me do it" versus "god told me to" versus "save them from damnation" defenses and explanations, variously for people's crimes should be attainable, one way or another. Especially through court records, or psychological studies of nut-balls with religious fetishes.
