What the bleep is "Bitcoin"

You mean to tell me you dont know what a bitcoin is? Really? Its what you give a horse when it is chomping at the bit!

It's an extremely unstable attempt at creating an independent "virtual" currency (scare quotes because most currency is virtual at this point) that in theory allows complete anonymity when it's used.

For something "unstable" it seems to be doing quite well.

Thx for the link, will cruise it as I'm able.

I say "unstable" because it's intended to be a currency but the value fluctuates too much to be truly useful as such. The main benefit of currency is relative stability. I don't have to worry too much about the dollar I have today being worth only 50 cents at the moment that I decide to spend it. There's inflation, of course, but it would take a long time before my dollar loses significant day-to-day value.

Bitcoin, on the other hand, is currently being treated like a stock with an almost completely undefinable real value. I could buy a Bitcoin today for $600 and it might be worth $500 tomorrow - that ain't currency in my book, no matter how many pieces each Bitcoin gets split into.

If people want to gamble on buying Bitcoin that's their prerogative, but until it achieves some kind of stability compared with other stable forms of currency, it's a speculative venture and not something I'd want to use to buy groceries and pay the rent.

The favoured currency of internet pedophiles and internet drug lords.
