It's a gross misdemeanor to make, sell, import a >10 round mag in Washington State as of July 1, 2022.

No person in this state may manufacture, import, distribute, sell, or offer for sale any large capacity magazine, except as authorized in this section.

I imagine that those who want to, will just buy from out of state and bring them into WA even though that will also be prohibited.

With it having become all the clearer this past couple of years that the 'United' States is really a collection of 50 fiefdoms, anything so 'radical' to the 2A crowd is a pointless gesture if not a coordinated, nationwide policy.

I'd happily go further and limit to six, and introduce locking mechanisms to slow down mag switches. As long as bodies hit the floor in the States resulting from too many shots being cracked off quickly, legitimate sportshooters can deal with the petty inconvenience of having to reload more often while plinking.

Hopefully any weapons found with contraband magazines will also be confiscated and destroyed.

It's also a Mormon stupefied State.

I know. I have family there. My husband and I had an old friend we've known since the 1970's. While always on the conservative side, he was never bat crap crazy and our differing politics were no problem. About 20 years ago he moved to Idaho. We no longer have a relationship because we don't even recognize him anymore. He's gone full Idaho Trumper. Sad.

In 2017 the NRA filed suit against California's ban (California Penal Code § 32310) on magazines that can hold more then 10 rounds and in 2019 won in district court. CA appealed the case to the Ninth circuit court. In August 2020 a 3 judge panel upheld (the lower court ruling) that the statue was unconstitutional. In Nov 2021 the full judge panel upheld the ban (overturning the district court, and 3-judge circuit court). The NRA and the California Rifle & Pistol Association petitioned the Supreme Court to hear a challenge to the ban. If the court hears the case, and being a conservative court, could overturn the ban, thus allowing California's to legally own magazine that hold more than 10 rounds. The Ninth Circuit covers Washington state. So, if the CA ban is overturned, maybe the Washington ban would also be overturned?

What? You think there's going to be left-wing vigilantes going around confiscating people's ammo and guns? Is there such a history of this?

You and I seem to be in agreement, that catsmate's hope is stupid and wrong. Not sure why you're taking me to task about catsmate's hope, instead of engaging catsmate directly, but I can guess.

Nice try at spinning again. Catsmate never said a word about 'vigilantistic fantasies' or unauthorized people taking anything. That was you:

Hopefully any weapons found with contraband magazines will also be confiscated and destroyed.
Hopefully the law, and not vigilantistic fantasies, will apply.

No, we don't agree. Anyone breaking the law should face the legal consequences.

Does the new law touch weapons? Or only magazines?

Do you really think legal weapons should be extrajudicially confiscated, simply because they were found beside illegal magazines? That's what catsmate thinks. That's what you're defending.

I don't think possession is mentioned in the law.

Yep. Calif. bans possession as well but not WA. In the case of weapons, some changes are grandfathered. For instance private purchase was legal decades ago in Calif. but now even transfers/gifts from family members must go through a federal firearms licensee with the requisite background checks. But this was not retroactive to those earlier transfers/purchases. These rules vary by state and are not a federal laws except for certain firearms such as fully automatic weapons, aka machine guns.

Catsmate never said anything about extrajudicial confiscation That is you. I specifically said "Anyone breaking the law should face the legal consequences".
