I couldn't find the original posting on this subject, but I did get a screen shot of what's been happening when I navigate through randi.org. I get a virus warning from my AVG free software and here it is. It happens anywhere on the site and I guess I am the only one that's been getting this thing so far.

I suggest the problem is that you have download a pdf called tyk.pdf and that this has a virus. Do you remember where you downloaded it from?

Mind you I am no expert so I probably am wrong.

I am not certain where I donwloaded it from, but the odd part is that I only get this when go through this site, and I can't recall downloading that particular pdf file. Yeah I know realize my real name was in that screen shot, but I doubt anything bad will happen as a result, I hope.

Expect a cease and desist from Rick Mercer any day now. :)

I wonder if it has to do with links? I know for a fact I got a virus clicking on a link here to snopes.com. As soon as it started to load I got a bad feeling, I could see data coming in but the page wasn't loading. It took about 2 minutes to load a page that should have taken 15 seconds with my connection. No sooner did it load than a "Your computer may been infected, click here now" pop up. Turn off, boot safe mode, run super spyware, reboot. Done.

I'm no expert, but you may want to try deleting your cookies, rebooting in safe mode, and trying a cleaning.

Did what you said, and the only thing the spyware scanner found was 1 adware tracking cookie.

Since there are plenty of people with that same name, I don't imagine it would be a problem.

That's weird. I guess I'd try to locate the file using the "search" function and try to delete it. It might be in two places if it's been quarantined by AVG. Best of luck.

Mr. Mercer is right......something did happen about 2 days ago....the majority of the time I navigate the site without signing in, can't remember what thread I was reading but all of a sudden I got one of those scam virus-checking programs come on to scan my computer, and the computer totally locked up...had to manually shut it down and restart...

Upon restarting everything was normal for surfing some other sites, until I accessed the Randi forum area again...soon as I did, computer totally locked up....did the manual shut down and restart...everything was fine again until I came back here...another lock up...

Something was up.....could be coincidence...

2 posts in 8 years? That's got to be some kind of record.

I suggest you remove the picture from wherever you stored it. Then you can partly reclaim your unanimity.
You do know that there are millions of people who don't worry about the fact their real names are in cyber space? My son and all his friends think nothing of having their real names on FaceBook and MySpace. It's their culture.

I gave up worrying about it long ago. My real name is out there on lots of sites.

And the name in question in this thread is too common to be of much concern.

Do you go to other Vbulletin sites?

Hello Robert Clary, you should use Firefox instead of Microsofts "Internet Virus Collector".
