This doesn't qualify as a conspiracy theory that "turned out to be true" any more than any of the September 11, JFK, Pearl Harbor, or other well-known conspiracy theories. Conspiracists' claiming that a CT must be true doesn't make it so.

The Liberty was admittedly intercepting radio communications in the middle of a war and was 84 miles closer to Egypt than the US had told Israel its ships would be. Even so, Israel accepted responsibility for the attack, reported it to the US within hours, and paid $3.3 million to the families of the deceased, $3.6 million to the men who had been wounded, and $6 million to the US for damage to the ship.

The accepted narrative: Israel attacked the USS Liberty when it shouldn't have.

The conspiracy theory: Israel attacked the USS Liberty when it shouldn't have because Jooz!

Proof for the alternate being true: Jooz!

And that's the Liberty incident. It's a riveting indictment of one nation's propensity to accidentally shoot onlookers who purposefully wander into a war zone just to see what's going on.

I've increasingly noticed that almost any post beginning with "So..." then proceeds to build a strawman to attack. I wonder- did this tendency originate historically as a misspelling of "Sew," as in sewing the old clothing to stuff the straw in?
