Did you know that 25 Iraq students departed for the United States in January 2005 for the reestablished Fulbright program?

Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational?! They have 5 - 100-foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels and a naval infantry regiment.

Did you know that Iraq's Air Force consists of three operational squadrons, which includes 9 reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport aircraft (under Iraqi operational control) which operate day and night, and will soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and 4 Bell Jet Rangers?

Did you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion?

Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000 fully trained and equipped police officers?

Did you know that there are 5 Police Academies inIraq that produce over 3500 new officers each 8 weeks?

Did you know there are more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq? They include 364 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations, 22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities and 69 electrical facilities.

Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5 have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations?

Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school by mid October?

Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq and phone use has gone up 158%?

Did you know that Iraq has an independent media that consists of 75 radio stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations?

Did you know that 47 countries have reestablished their embassies in Iraq?

Did you know that the Iraqi government currently employs 1.2 million Iraqi people?

Did you know that 3100 schools have been renovated, 364 schools are under rehabilitation, 263 schools are now under construction and 38 new schools have been built in Iraq?

Did you know that Iraq's higher educational structure consists of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research centers, all currently operating?

Did you know that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004?

Did you know that 2 candidates in the Iraqi presidential election had a televised debate recently?

OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T KNOW . . AND I DIDN'T KNOW!

WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW? OUR MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US!

Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing snowballs at the presidential motorcades.

The lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two purposes. It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States, thus minimizing consequential support, and it is intended to discourage American citizens.

*** Above facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense web site.***

PASS IT ON OUR MEDIA SHOULD BE HEAPED WITH SHAME!!!!!!

Is this like a chain letter? Should I pass it on to 25 of my closest friends in the hope of reaping great fortune in the end or risking that one of them will die if I don't?

Since Snopes didn't say so one way or another, I thought I'd check out this claim:
*** Above facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense web site.***

I picked a couple of points that looked easy to find but had trouble verifying any of them specifically.

Riddick, could you please back up your claims?

Well, technically they're not his claims, they're the claims of an unnamed conservative spammer who Riddick copied and pasted here in the naive hope nobody would notice.

True enough, but he did present them as though they were his claims.

I guess I should ask: Riddick, do you stand behind these claims?

I can vouch for the aircraft claim about the recon aircraft and C-130's. You can find more detail by digging about at USAF.mil if you really care.

Why the media should blitz the public with this mundane detail of reconstructing Iraq's Air Force is beyond me.

Granted all of the above (and given the multi-billion dollar program, it would be surprising if they were not accurate), has any of that led to an appreciable increase in stability and safety in Iraq and the subsequent drawdown of US forces therein?

I would argue No. Considering at least 43 Iraqis were killed in bombings/shootings on Monday (given the population disparity, this would be like 473 Americans dying in terroristic action in one day) and the likelyhood of indefinite US involvement under the Bush Doctrine, I think I have a fairly strong argument.

I am willing to hear counterpoints.

Snopes also posted this link, a response from an Iraqi citizen.
To summarize:
Yes things are getting better, but very slowly. In fact it is so slow that we are not expecting things to get back to normal in months to come. We modified our hopes from few months, to few years and we are very sad to have reached this conclusion.
Till this moment, we are not even close to pre-war situation. Yes we can have satellite dishes, and we have many newspapers, but put all such stuff in on one side of a balance, and absence of electricity, security, and fuel on the other, and you tell me which side will go down.
The Coalition did a very lousy job. We are not asking them to admit it, but at least let them keep quiet and not go bragging about it.

Did you know, yet again, Bush came on national TV on 9/11 anniversary no less, and tried to scare us into thinking he and his neocons are "still" doing a great job?

Charlie (did you know?) Monoxide

yea, i stand behind them. i can't see someone going to the trouble to compile that information simply to present it falsely. i suppose one would have to set what would be considered "material scrutiny". in accounting, 3% is considered a material amount. if one found a 3% deviation from the OP, then you could say that the OP has a "qualified" opinion, or less than perfect.

why would guy go and state those things and not have the proof at hand to back them up? i can't think of any reason.

you may also look at this post and consider it spam, depending on your taste.
