US CENTCOM twitter account hacked by ISIS

Almost every single government agency, and military sub-command, in the US has its own Twitter and Facebook accounts where they usually post links to their public news releases.

A Twitter or Facebook account being commandeered is hardly a critical security failure.

Not a big deal (it's not one of Cencom's high security site" but embarassing none the less.
The Officer who handled the security for the Twitter Site will soon be doing his programming in Nome,Alaska.......

It wasn't so much the Twitter 'hacking' that was the problem (their password was probably 'password'), but the posting on it of lots of military personnel's personal details, along with the implied threats. Don't know whether all the information was genuine, but I think that was rather the point.

Oh my lord this America hating stupidity makes me lafffff!!!! Colbert will be gone but I will still have this forum to enjoy, thank you.
Huh? Who's hating America? I mean, I know that a lot of people do (most countries are hated by lots of people; don't know if anyone hates Nauru), but I don't think I've seen anyone here exhibiting that. Well, other than IS supporters, of course, but they're not in this thread.

You know that Colbert is putting on an act right?

Now I realize my "amusing" imaginary scenario was a weak stab at humour but there was no America hatred involved, sir!

pfft have you ever read angrysoba's body of work? I'm pretty sure he shed a tear and almost had an aneurysm that time Obama swatted a fly on air.

No one can be that convincing without having skin the game... you feel me? "Son"?

More like "flaccid flail" and most people that hate America don't even know it. Take Obama.

QED

ISIS: "we are in your PCs, killing ur d00ds"

Yes, I take it all back, this isn't a joke, and we should all be afraid.

From what I've read, it was links to copies of publicly-available records. Designed to look to the lay observer as if some kind of significant government computer breach had occurred somewhere along the line. However, near as I can tell there has been no such breach; someone guessed the Twitter password (or otherwise obtained it), and that was the extent of the "attack".

I was listening to BBC Radio 5 this morning and they were interviewing a U.S. security expert. They asked him how serious a breach this was. His reply

"On a scale of 1 to 10....."

He pauses and you can almost hear the reporter licking their lips at the prospect of this being the biggest security breach since ever.....

"....about a 1"

....and the interviewer is completely crestfallen.
