Short version:

UKIP host an event and someone pays the £900 bill. Next day the UKIP MEP asks for a receipt for several times that amount so they can "repatriate the money from Europe".

This news will likely make no difference to the UKIP core support but it may lift the veil for people who might consider UKIP as a protest vote.

I'd hope so, but for some reason UKIP seem to be able to avoid the levels of public disapprobation experienced by other parties over fraudulent expense claims. Maybe this will change as the elections draw nearer.

they don't see stealing from the EU as a crime, it's their patriotic duty.

There is a joke wherein Robin Hood says, "I rob from the rich and give to the poor. Us poor..."

Might as well put this here, as good a place as any - the link does what it says:

[UKIPper]Well at least it shows how hard we work to keep scandal out of the party. If only other parties worked so hard we wouldn't have had the MP expenses scandal, Tories colluding with the EDL and so on...[/UKIPper]

Or something like that..
