Yesterday afternoon, I spotted a UFO over a suburb of the Twin Cities. The object was certainly flying, and I could not tell what it was. It therefore qualified as a UFO.
From my vantage point, it appeared to include two separate dark aircraft, one atop the other. My first reaction was that I was seeing a space shuttle being ferried to a destination atop a jumbo jet. But there was no reason that the space shuttle would be going anywhere via Minnesota, and no reason for it to be flying so low.
I wondered if the thing could be a biplane, with the double-decker wings looking like one aircraft atop another. If so, the biplane would have to have been enormous. The haze in the sky indicated that the object, whatever it was, was fairly distant. Whatever this thing was, it would have been roughly the size of a commercial jet, and much larger than a biplane.
My third hypothesis was that the object was actually several smaller aircraft, flying in formation. I've seen such sights many times in my neighborhood. This object, however, did not exhibit indications of being formation flying.
I decided to get a closer look. But when I drove to a parking lot where I would have a better view, the object was gone. I had no idea what I'd seen and no reasonable explanation for it.
Two hours later, I spotted the thing again. This time, I decided to see if I could drive close to it and see what it was. And I did. It wasn't the space shuttle, or a biplane, or a group of aircraft. Rather, it turned out to be a large banner being towed by a single-engine airplane. It was the largest airborne banner that I'd ever seen, with a profile that was probably larger than most commercial jets. It included two lines of bold black text, one atop the other. The top line said "10 WEEKS" and the bottom line said "ABORTION." Next to the text was a bloody, gruesome photograph of an aborted fetus.
