Tsunami and Psychics...

It is my impression that there hasn't been a ton of stories (yet) on psychics who predicted the Tsunami. Which, leads one to wonder how the "real" ones missed this story. Has anyone seen any fun post-hoc psychic "predictions", rationalizatons or explainations? Nationally inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Sylvia Browne is claiming success. However, all she says is that she warned people about traveling in India. Let me guess... she was reading the news at the time?? Bad things were going on at the time. If I recall, India was about to buy a bunch of new weapons, or something. Good job Sylvia for reading the news.

In October 2004 on the Montel Williams Show, Sylvia advised viewers to avoid travel to India due to safety concerns. On December 26th Sylvia's prediction was validated when a tsunami devastated India. Sylvia further warns that travel to the region will not be safe for another 6 months due to health issues (water purity, disease) created in the aftermath of the tsunami.

Of course, if she really knew about the tsunami, you think she would have done something to save 150,000 people.

So, success was warning people to not travel in India? My wife, than is psychic 'cause every time I mention the thought of going there...she refuses. However, wouldn't it be more impressive if she had warned people aobut Sri Lanka, Thialand or, yes, Summatra (where most of the deaths occured?).

Given the general level of geographical ignorance around the world, I suspect that a significant proportion of Sylvia's target audience may not realise that Sri Lanka, Thailand and Sumatra are not in India, or indeed that India and Indonesia are not the same country.

See, for example http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2496427.stm
56% of Americans were unable to locate India, home to 17% of the world's population.

headscratcher4,

I can't find the link (have just spent 10 minutes looking) but I did a quick search back on Jan 2 and foudn a site where some guy was claiming a successful prediction. He'd originally stated : July 2004, China, Earthquake, millions killed. He was claiming December 2004, tsunami, Indonesia, 150,00 killed as a match. Close?? I don't think so...

Of course, Nostradamus saw it all clearly (but wrote in down somewhat less clearly) (from here):

Mars and Mercury and the silver [Moon] in conjunction.
Towards the south there will be a great drought.
From the bottom of Asia an earthquake will be reported.
Corinth [Greece] and Ephesus [Asia Minor] then in a troubled state.
How accurate! He predicted a quake in Asia some time after 1550. I'm astounded.

I listed one on here somewhere(ill try find it again)which I found pretty close-better than Nostradamus anyway!;)
