Regardless of one's political leanings or thoughts on Harvard, this sounds illegal and just plain whacked IMO.

It's not Harvard I worry about -- they have money and a lot of backers -- but the medium-sized to small universities out there. I suspect those are the ones trump is trying to intimidate. I despaired about trump being elected again but I never ever thought it would be this bad.

Yep Harvard has a lot of outside money to sustain themselves. It's almost seems like our president is holding a grudge or something about them filing lawsuits and fighting back.

Kind of weird that he singled out Harvard with that DHS letter/mandate. Guessing there will be more to come.

This was the requirement from Noem:

But Noem said in a letter to Harvard on Thursday that the information was insufficient and subsequent attempts to get more from the school did not satisfy the government.

If Harvard wants to regain its ability to enroll international students for the fall semester, the letter stated, the school must provide in the next 72 hours all records and audio and video files that involve dangerous, threatening or illegal activity by an international student enrolled within the past five years.

Harvard also must turn over all audio and video footage of protest activity from the past five years involving international students at its campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Noem wrote.

I would suggest Harvard send a letter back with the full list of qualifying students, looking like follows:

Dear Madam Secretary

Here is the list of all students who meet your criteria:

I have a hunch this has more to with pleasing/entertaining trump's base than any real policy. I'm sure most MAGAmutts loathe Harvard.

Harvard has the best law school in the country, and its professors are among the beat lawyers. There is nothing to keep them from giving their legal advice to Harvard. Harvard is not a good organization to pick a legal fight with.

I'm betting most of them think it's the name of some uppity Harvey guy from Bawston that Trump hates. Because the concept of "university" or even "high school" is foreign to them.

In 1988, Obama enrolled in Harvard Law School, where he was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review.

I have sympathy with Harvard for resisting submitting to regular ideological purity inspections.

I have a great deal of sympathy for the students who are going to get their very expensive top-flight education derailed by this.

I predict these people will not blame Harvard.
