San Diego Police Officer Christine Garcia, the department's first transgender officer, was denied entry to the Transgender Day of Remembrance event (a yearly event remembering the victims of transgender targeted violence) over concerns that her uniform might "upset" other attendees. Officer Garcia had helped organize and plan security for the event.

Looks like a case of an idiot on the door. Sadly you find them in all walks of life. When the organizers and leaders heard she'd been denied entry they seem to have sorted it out and apologized, then retrained the door people in the actual policies.

But I need my dose of internet outrage!

Communication breakdown, basically.

I used to see that all the time when I worked at a restaurant. The bouncers would routinely bar women who arrived intending to join private bookings for stags. Sometimes the woman in question was paying for the whole thing. We'd sort it out.

I'm glad to see that they responded in the right way to the situation.

But you have to remember in this age of 'safe spaces' there are too many people who have gotten the idea that 'inclusion' means only the people who agree with them.

Considering how the Pink Pistols have been received in certain circles, it does not surprise me.

The local founder faced quite a bit of pushback over marching in the Pride Parade.

Or, as we have so many opportunities to say nowadays, Idiots will continue to be Idiots!!!!!

Yes. The history of police abusing transgender people.

Whenever police brutality occurs, there is police there.

Nice.

I read somewhere that identifying people as groups and assigning common negative attributes to the group as a whole was poor thinking, but I could be incorrect.

You would think that as a human!

They are just the worst!

But I can understand how a police officer showing up at a party could put people on edge. Did someone call the police? Is there a warrant out for someone? Should we warn everyone in the restroom to flush their stuff?

If you don't want to be excluded, don't belong to a hate group.

How will the police get better, if better people do not join? How will the police appreciate diversity, if diverse people do not join? How will the uniform no longer be seen as a symbol of oppression, unless non-oppressors are seen wearing it?

There is not a single good cop. All have chosen to be oppressors.

Now you are undermining the whole basis for many police procedures. Like how stop and frisk is going to go national, and trump promises to keep any guns found.

But the cops are great at getting rid of trouble makers. Like if you report your partner for beating a tranny you know you are not going to be working there anymore.
