Toothbrush sharing

Okay, a married couple I know share toothbrushes. And their son uses the same toothbrush. Their excuse is, since they share so many... bacteria and fluids (cough) anyway, they're not doing each other harm by sharing a toothbrush.

Other than the "ick" factor, I think it's a very bad idea.

First it's gross as hell. I don't even share a toothbrush with my Significant Other when I'm dating...

That's nasty.

But your children?

I can't put my finger on it, but there's something truly unpalatable about that. It's almost sick in some way.

Although it's probably really not that unhealthy. In terms of germs and gook, if you wash the darn thing off after brushing enough... I doubt it makes any difference, other than wearing out every one month instead of every three.

Heh. they've been using the same toothbrush for over 1 year. It's kind of pathetic looking. and grody. very very grody. I mean, he smokes cigarettes. She shoves anything into her mouth that doesn't crawl away fast enough to avoid being eaten. The little boy is constantly naked and touching himself and hates to wash his hands.

Yes, very bad idea. Oral pathogens can survive on toothbrushes stored even in dry conditions for more than 48 hours. Even worse for the child. Very nasty diseases such as Hepatitis C can be transmitted via shared toothbrushes. Advise them to ask a dentist about it - maybe they'll stop.

No, it is very unhealthy. And rinsing with water won't help, you'd have to soak it in disinfectant or irradiate it.

what a positively creepy sounding family. i have a feeling that the toothbrush is just one of a laundry list of problems they have.

That is pretty disgusting. Some people think my family is weird just because we share tiolet paper, but come on. That toilet paper can get expensive and there is no way I am just going to flush it down the toilet.

We have a nice decorative basin next to the tiolet where we keep the current sheet. Our guests don't seem to mind too much, though we haven't had any in a long time.

But toothbrushes?! Ick!

Um... Coyote... it's very funny you said that, but I HAVE caught that little boy trying to put toilet paper back. After he's used it. But then again, I haven't been to see them all in a while.

There is some validity in saying that you share all your SO's germs anyway (guess it depends on how wild your sex life is), but I can't see that applying to others, even children.

Oh...well...good, then. I feel like my natural revulsion has a logical basis.
