Look at this guy's story. I put this here because it deals more with politics and current events than anything else.

http://www.johntitor.com/

Although it may be easy to dismiss all this as science fiction, most people who read his posts agree that there is something very haunting about John Titor and what he said. In addition, and open to more debate, he also made a series of predictions and comments that eerily seem to be coming true.

I more or less don't believe it, but there could be some sort of conflict like the one he outlined.

I bet this "John Titor" guy started up the website himself. Some people have too much time...

Why on earth would you give this any possibility of being true?

It'd be trivial to prove you are from the future, yet he doesn't.

His statements about the IBM 5100 computer are laughable.
The 5100 has the ability to easily translate between the old IBM code, APL, BASIC and (with a few tweaks in 1975) UNIX

Unix is an operating system, BASIC is a language. 'Translating' between BASIC and Unix makes no sense. It's like translating between French, and i don't know, watercolor painting. It's meaningless.

It isinteresting to note that the website jsut says he was "online" it doesn't say where. Looking at the posts you get no idea what forums or newsgroups he posted these things to. It makes it suspiciously hard to check out. I call bullsh!t

You can look here to see where he posted. Unnamed source of course.

I liked that, I don't know why, I'm a sucker for these sorts of things, fiction dressed up as fact.

It reminds me of that website about the guy who bought the mysterious book, with the spiritualist-type pictures with green energy glows and stuff on. It was called 'The Something' (well, not 'something', I just can't remember the right noun). I'm sure someone can tell me what it was called. I quite enjoyed that conceit, too.

Not so. Go to the section "Other John Titor web links" - it has links to other message boards.

It also says that he posted a lot on Art Bell's site. I know that will inspire a lot of confidence aroud here.

Perhaps the idea is to get the woo-woo people to start reading the actual future into his stuff. Then he can pop-up in a few years and amuse us all at their expense. Consider that concocted "Nostradamus" verse that was made so much of by the "experts" after 9/11. Would it be unethical?

Now THAT's funny ◊◊◊◊. I couldn't past the face page as I laughed so hard............

The "pictures" he has in the left corner of his device are : A Colortran light control board (for theatre ,circa '86 or so ) ,the name was either "light Pallet" or "omega" it's been too long; an Osborn portable computer ( looks like the Os-2) which ran on CP/M ; a Casio POS cash register and some other crap.

Man who knew you could travel in time so cheaply?

Life in 2036-The people that survived grew closer together. Life is centered on the family and then the community. I cannot imagine living even a few hundred miles away from my parents.

There is no large industrial complex creating masses of useless food and recreational items. Food and livestock is grown and sold locally. People spend much more time reading and talking together face to face. Religion is taken seriously and everyone can multiply and divide in their heads.

So nukes are fired from Russia, China, and the U.S. The resulting damage includes 3 billion deaths and the destruction of almost all major U.S. cities. Yet, for some reason, these farmers need a computer from 1975 to understand how to deal with the UNIX registry messing up in 2038 - even though a nuclear war would produce so many EMPs that only the most hardened computer could survive. Oh, and GPS and communication satellites are still working.

Plus, in 2036 there are FIVE U.S. presidents. That makes perfect sense.
